Healthy Aging Series: Balance & Stability ⚖️
Building muscle is an investment in your future, but strength is only part of the equation. Balance and stability are just as important for maintaining independence, moving with confidence, and reducing your risk of falls as we age.
The good news? These are skills we can continue to improve at any age!
Here are 3 exercises to start incorporating into your routine:
💪 Single-leg balance: Practice on a stable surface first, then progress to a more challenging surface as your balance improves.
🚶♀️ Heel-to-toe walk: Challenge your balance and coordination while practicing control with each step.
🪜 Step-ups: Build lower-body strength, balance, and confidence for everyday activities like navigating stairs and curbs.
Remember, you don’t have to do anything complicated to make progress. Start where you are, focus on control, and gradually challenge yourself as you improve. Always prioritize safety and use support when needed.
