WOMEN, YOUR WORKOUT ISN’T OVER WHEN YOU PUT THE WEIGHTS DOWN. 👀
This is exactly why we talk so much about getting your protein in after you train.
In her conversation with neuroscientist Dr. Andrew Huberman, exercise physiologist and nutrition scientist Dr. Stacy Sims explains that the post workout recovery window may be particularly important for women.
Her recommendation?
Prioritize high quality protein soon after training.
Dr. Sims explains that women have a tighter post training recovery window than men and recommends getting protein in within roughly 45 minutes after training. She also emphasizes that protein needs can increase as women move into perimenopause and beyond.
Why?
Because training creates the stimulus.
Protein provides amino acids your body needs for the repair and rebuilding process.
And ladies, this is one of those times when waiting hours to eat because you’re trying to “save calories” may not be the strategy you think it is.
At No Doubt, we’ve been preaching this for years:
💪 Train hard.
🥩 Get your protein in after your workout.
📊 Then make sure you’re still hitting your total protein needs throughout the day.
That last part matters too.
One post workout shake won’t make up for consistently under eating protein the rest of the day.
But if you’re a woman who trains, especially in midlife, don’t treat your post workout nutrition like an afterthought.
Your workout creates the demand.
Your recovery helps determine what your body does with it.
