Michigan’s State Short Track Meet was a rousing success today in Muskegon. Thank you to MadMark J and the WMSC for hosting. Thanks to all the skaters, parents and volunteers for your hard work in putting on this awesome event! It was a great way to wrap up the 2025-2026 season. See ya next year!

I’m a little late in posting these photos from last Monday’s Muskegon session at which we had some new skaters. We hope you had a great time and will continue to skate the last few weeks with us this season. Please join us next season starting in October and for our summer fundraisers.

Watching the Olympic Speedskating competitions and seeing the legendary former medalists in the audience like Eric Heiden reminds me of the Heiden family. I worked with Eric’s dad Jack, an orthopedic surgeon at my hospital in Wisconsin. I rowed in a Master’s Four boat with Eric’s mom Nancy. When I started speedskating, they gave me Eric’s sister Beth’s old Ballangrud long track skates. Beth was also in the winter Olympics in speedskating and biking in the summer Olympics. She won a bronze in the 3000M in Lake Placid in 1980. She is lesser known than her big brother, so I wanted to give her her due. I can’t believe she used to skate in skates like this. I can’t believe I used to skate in skates like this. But I am honored to have started in Beth’s skates.
