10/20/2026

'Twas the night before practice, and all through the house,

Not a Rougher was stirring, not even a mouse.
The headgear was nestled in gym bags with care,

In hopes that the season soon would be there.
The youth wrestlers nestled all snug in their beds,

While visions of takedowns danced in their heads.

And parents were resting, preparing the drive,
To watch the new Muskogee rookies arrive.
When morning arrives, they will lace up their shoes,

Ready to learn how to win and not lose.
Away to the wrestling room, packed in a flash,
Into the mats they will sprint and will dash.
The glare of the gym lights on circles below,
Will give a bright luster to faces aglow.

When, what to their wondering eyes should appear,

But the coaching staff smiling and full of great cheer!

With a whistle so loud, and a spirit so quick,
The coaches will show them each fundamental trick.

More eager than eagles the young Roughers came,

As they lined up by size and were called out by name:
"Now, Stance! Now, Motion! Now, Sprawl and Level Change!
On, Breakdown! On, Half-Nelson! Keep in your range!
To the edge of the circle! To the center of the mat!
Now circle and drive 'em, and pin 'em down flat!"
They’ll practice their takedowns and learn how to fight,
Building up strength and performing with might.
And the coaches will shout as they turn off the light,
"Great job tonight, Roughers, keep working the fight!"
