There is no such thing as a panacea when it comes to healing.

There is no silver bullet, no single shamanic ritual, no magic pill.

Healing is a series of personal discoveries.

It's very individualized and very specific.

And the puzzle pieces to what it looks like for you are ALWAYS right in front of you.

Hidden in plain slight.

See, here's the thing:

Us remaining "unhealed" benefits the current system.

It banks on us believing that "it" has the answers to what will make us "all better."

The system has meticulously curated this paradigm.

It trains us to believe that "it" knows better than US.

So we look for the answers about US to be delivered TO us - from "it."

Which shifts our focus away from the all of the medicine literally right in front of us.

What I know for sure is that pretty much all you need to heal is already in you and around you.

The keys to your healing are EVERYWHERE.

They're hidden in your childhood.

They're in your unresolved trauma.

They're present in how you manage your emotions.

They're woven into your patterns.

They're buried underneath your incomplete personal narratives and "stories" that you've never bothered to revise about yourself.

They're in your personal relationships.

And in your desires.

The medicine is so abundant and the prescriptions are so fu***ng precise that it blows my mind each and every day.

Healing is a decision to go IN instead of looking for the answers out there.

To me, it's magic.

For the majority of my life I felt weird, different and misunderstood.

I realize now that my own personal healing required learning to embrace that about myself.

I needed to be that way to do what I do.

Which is to help people remember that what they need to heal themselves isn't "out there."

It's right in front of them.

And it was the whole time.

Hidden right in plain sight.

Anybody else a complete sucker for colorful markers?

I love triggers.

When I first begin with a new client, what really lights them up trigger wise is one of the first places we start our work.

I want to know who pi**es them off, who pushes their buttons, who's wronged them, disappointed them, scared them, cheated them, minimized them, offended them, and hurt them.

For me, it's like an emotional M.R.I. scan.

These triggers show me where the wounds are.

And once we get our hands on those wounds - we know where the medicine needs to go.

I truly believe that every person that comes into our life experience has something to teach us.

We don't always have to like someone to learn something from them.

The problem is, for most of us anyway, when we get all offended and/or all worked up by others...and we don't USE the trigger to understand OURSELVES better, we really miss an opportunity to heal, not to mention GROW.

We live in a world right now where people are so easily offended.

When people get triggered the typical "modus operandi" is to project that inner discomfort outward.

In other words: someone will experience a trigger and then expect the external environment to shift in order to mitigate inner discomfort.

While on paper that might make sense, in actuality...they've surrendered their power.

When our comfort is contingent upon external factors lining up certain ways - we're at the mercy of things that are completely out of our control.

It's a recipe for failure.

Instead, if we're aware enough to USE these triggers to ask ourselves: "Huh, WHY does that bother me so much? Where is this coming from? What INSIDE of ME is this stirring up? What is this REALLY about?" We've just alchemized "being offended" into some potent medicine for ourselves.

Does the medicine always taste good?

No.

But it will give you your power back.

Do you have someone in your life that lights you up emotionally like a Christmas tree?

Write down their name on a piece of paper.

Cross it out with a big red pen.

And underneath write the word "Teacher."

Potent medicine right there.

I would like to make a case.

And that is:

I think the biggest addiction we have as humans is the one we have to the need for certainty.

In fact: I think we will take certainty over healing, growth, happiness and especially love.

Healing means choosing to believe a different story about your life, which will require letting go of old narratives. This will disrupt certainty.

Growth requires stretching beyond your comfort zone which will up-end certainty.

Happiness requires looking for what's right instead of always focusing on what's wrong, which REALLY compromises one's sense of certainty because the bad stuff is always easier to find and to believe.

Love requires vulnerability which is hella risky. If anything will dismantle our feeling of certainty - it's putting our heart in the hands of someone else.

Plot twist: the #1 need of the human ego is certainty.

Followed closely by significance (or the need to be relevant)

The need to cultivate a sense of certainty for ourselves begins in childhood when we begin to understand that certainty is what we'll clamor for when we aren't able to get our emotional needs met.

In other words: we intrinsically need unconditional love, but when it doesn't happen, we'll settle for certainty.

It's easier to find so we'll take it anyway we can get it.

Being right, over getting it right.

Punching below our weight because it's easier to predict the outcome.

Saying yes when we mean no, and no when we mean yes because of the fear of tipping over the apple cart.

The evidence is everywhere.

Part of living a big, bold, beautiful life is letting go of the addiction to certainty in exchange for what's waiting for us.

Love is the holy grail.

And we have to give up our addiction to certainty to get it.

I believe chronic, subconscious disempowerment is a systematic issue that contributes to most of life's maladies.

Because maladies are lucrative.

Financially.

Economically.

Medically.

Nutritionally.

Societally.

Spiritually.

Personally.

To me, disempowerment means that we subconsciously surrender our agency.

It's the way the whole system works too. It's set up this way.

It's why they don't teach kids about personal finance in school and why, instead, they make sure we take tests about parallelograms.

It's why when we seek help for a medical issue, we're given a pill before we're offered a lifestyle assessment.

It's why a hamburger at McDonalds is cheaper than organic fruit.

It's why we've been conditioned to believe we have more differences to each other than we do things in common.

It why we've been taught that God is an entity outside of us, not a something that resides within us.

It's why we've been trained to believe more in what's wrong with us than what's right with us.

Our disempowerment is what the system banks on...literally.

It's why holistic healers are called charlatans, why personal trainers aren't part of the medical industry and why you understanding how the stock market works is not part of formal education.

The system devaluation of these things is part of the economic game.

Wanna take your power back?

Learn how finances actually work and practically apply it.

Invest in your body. Fuel it meaningfully and get to know what it's telling you before you ask a person who sees you once a year for 15 minutes what's true for you.

Get to know your neighbors. It's hard to hate someone up close.

Look at the miraculous events in your life instead of the problems.

Heal your s**t. Get to know who you really are and learn how to truly love yourself.

That...my friends...is some mother fu***ng power.

My husband is one of the best coaches I know.

We're both technically "coaches" although our prospective styles are really different.

The most obvious distinction between us is that he's a sport coach and I'm more of a spiritual coach.

We've done a few personality assessments and each time he's pretty much everything I'm not and vice versa.

He helps me with my blind spots and I help him with his.

He's very organized and practical, where I can be disorganized and more big picture.

He likes tangible, measurable data and I prefer intuition and universal law.

Oddly enough, we have a knack for pretty much always arriving at a similar place regardless of how our brains work and process information.

In other words: our values are in alignment even though our ways of being, doing, and thinking are often in opposition.

I've been knocking around an idea in my head for weeks about what I see in my clients who have begun self awareness work and have a good understanding of how things work - yet still struggle to make the changes that we know make sense based on their self discovery.

It's like they have attained a sense of awareness, but they are still stuck in a perpetual loop of behavior.

When I was explaining this to my husband he said: "It sounds like they're stuck in 'The Consciously Incompetent Stage."

I'm a visual learner, so I looked up what that meant.

I found this little graphic based on his guidance and it completely made sense.

Here's the thing:

Being aware is one thing.

Turning that awareness into a verb is another thing entirely.

Maya Angelou said: "Do the best you can until you know better...and when you know better, do better."

I can imagine her smirking as she said it. As if it's a super easy thing to do.

Going from Conscious Incompetence to Conscious Competence requires us to take what we've leaned and turn it into an action based on this new knowledge.

It's hard. It requires humility and help.

And it's completely part of the process of growth.

One of the first things I teach in my workshops and in my one-on-one sessions with clients is emotional awareness.

I believe deeply in the power of our emotions.

I do not subscribe to the adage that experiencing only "good" emotions means that you've achieved "mental wellness."

I do not believe that difficult emotions mean that they are "bad" or negative. I also don't think experiencing them means that there is necessarily something "wrong" with you.

I think emotions are information for you about you.

Emotions tell us when we're out of alignment.

They can also guide us towards where we're meant to invest our curiosity, or follow through on a clue that can lead us another step closer to our authenticity...maybe even our soul's purpose

Desire is one of the most powerful emotions.

I'm not necessarily taking about physical desire.

I'm taking about a deeper inner guidance that goes beyond trying to fulfill a superficial and fleeting need.

Desire is an inner knowledge that shows up as something we know we want to do or be or have that's often quickly dismissed by the limited scope of the human ego.

Despite the fact that the ego often "c**k blocks" the emotion of desire with logic and rationale, it continues to toss out little breadcrumbs for us with the hope that we'll follow a few.

Desire is the GPS of the Soul.

This is why dealing with your trauma, and identifying what emotions take up space in your life so that you can heal is so massively important.

Because without this, desire is often over shadowed by difficult emotions geared towards survival like: anxiety (a lack of self trust,) fear (a lack of perceived safety,) anger (an unspoken truth,) you know?

Healing helps us make space for desire.

The Soul's information for you is very specific, incredibly precise and powerfully individualized.

Desire is it's language.

What do you want?

Maybe allow the desire of it tell you more.

You'll be surprised what you'll find when you decide to follow it.

You know...like yourself.

04/10/2022

The more I learn, the more I become aware of what I don't know.

I think of self awareness as a series of transparent sheets of plastic, kind of like the ones they used to use on an overhead projector.

Every sheet is influenced by the one under it, with childhood being the original blueprint at the base of them all.

Every slide that is placed on top as we age is another opportunity to reflect on what we were and who we want to become.

The power of choice comes in when we can look at these slides less subjectively and more objectively.

I don't know much...but I know that we have more agency than we think.

We just have to be brave enough to remember that.
