Napa River Scouting Trip 8/10/2026

It was a very windy day down on the Napa River again. Sometimes gusting to over 20kts. I tried hard at some of the usual locations and definitely put in the time and the effort at each of them but to no avail. Later in the afternoon as the incoming tide was heading towards the top I went to a spot that still had some decent tidal movement and equally important the howling wind was behind me....

When I’m not taking people out on guided fishing charters or scenic wetlands cruises or working around our property I’m usually only doing one other thing. It’s imperative to stay connected to the river when it’s your livelihood. You need to know what’s going on so you can provide the best service to your customers. Very tough day yesterday. Very strong winds out on the river. Whitecaps & muddy. Had to seek shelter right up close behind the levies to get out of the wind which limited the number of spots we could fish. Started out calm and foggy but that changed rapidly once the sun came up.
