Mastermind Cognitive Training was recently featured in Forbes in an article by Jennifer Jay Palumbo exploring the growing conversation around "summer slide" and why more families are focusing on the cognitive skills behind learning success.
In the feature, Mastermind CEO Dominick Fedele discusses how skills such as focus, memory, processing speed, and executive function help students stay engaged, confident, and prepared for the school year ahead.
The article also includes insights from Dr. Joaquin Anguera, Associate Professor of Neurology and Psychiatry at the University of California, San Francisco and a Mastermind advisor, along with Mastermind participants Damon and Liam Huffman, who share their firsthand experience with the program.
As technology continues to reshape education and daily life, cognitive readiness has never been more important.

“Mastermind has helped me improve both on the court and in the classroom. Vision and ball tracking are essential in tennis, and this training has helped me see the ball more clearly, react faster, and hit cleaner shots. I’ve especially noticed improvements on my backhand and returns, where timing and precision are key. In school, my memory has improved significantly. I’m able to recall information more easily without needing to memorize everything word for word, and I feel more confident during tests and quizzes.”

We are excited to share a recent piece our CEO, Dominick Fedele, wrote for District Administration on a challenge every educator is facing:
How do we strengthen student attention in the age of AI?
As technology accelerates, we’re seeing a shift — not just in how students learn, but in their ability to sustain focus, process information, and engage deeply. In fact, many education leaders are already concerned about declining skill proficiency as more cognitive tasks become automated.
The key takeaway from this article:
The solution isn’t to slow down technology — it’s to strengthen the brain that uses it.
In the piece, Dominick explores how cognitive training can help build attention, working memory, and learning stamina through structured, high-intensity practice — essentially creating a “mental gym” for students to thrive in a distraction-heavy world.
We are proud to be part of the conversation on where education is heading and how we can better support students in this next era.

We are excited to share that Mastermind Cognitive Training and Fusion Academy have launched a pilot research partnership to explore how cognitive training may support student learning in personalized education environments.
Fusion students have integrated short, structured cognitive training sessions into their weekly academic experience, while continuing their one-to-one curriculum. The study will examine potential changes in attention, working memory, processing efficiency, and executive function, and how those cognitive skills may relate to academic learning.
Fusion’s personalized model creates a unique environment to study how strengthening foundational brain skills might help students engage more effectively with learning.
We’re excited to work alongside such an innovative and student-centered organization and look forward to sharing what we learn from this pilot.

Educators are seeing a shift in classrooms across the country. Students lose momentum more quickly, struggle to stay engaged, and experience greater cognitive fatigue during learning.
In a recent conversation with Dr. Lisa Hassler on The Brighter Side of Education podcast, Mastermind CEO Dominick Fedele explores the neuroscience behind attention and how cognitive training can strengthen the foundational brain systems students rely on to learn.

A recent article in eSchool News, written by our CEO Dominick Fedele, explores how early cognitive training creates lasting brain strength and long-term academic resilience. At Mastermind Cognitive Training, we focus on developing the brain’s core systems so learning becomes more efficient and sustainable over time.
New research continues to reinforce a powerful idea. When cognitive skills are strengthened early, the benefits extend far beyond the classroom.
Attention. Working memory. Processing speed.
These core functions shape how students absorb information, solve problems, and adapt to new challenges.

Test scores tell us what students know.
They don’t tell us how ready students are to learn.
If we want better outcomes, we have to measure more than performance. We also have to measure and develop students’ capacity to learn through skills like focus, processing efficiency, and executive function. These are some of the critical skills learning depends on.
It’s time to measure and impact learning capacity, not just review test results. Learning readiness starts at the root, which is the brain.

Students can’t catch up if their brains aren’t ready.
Focus.
Processing speed.
Working memory.
These aren’t nice-to-have skills. They are the cognitive foundation every student needs to access learning.
Right now, that foundation is missing for too many learners. And no amount of tutoring or curriculum will close the gap until we address it.
This isn’t just an academic problem.
It’s an education readiness issue.

Students aren’t failing because of what they’re being taught. They’re struggling because their brains aren’t ready to learn.
Attention. Working memory. Cognitive flexibility. These are the foundations of learning—and they’re breaking down at scale.
This isn’t a curriculum crisis. It’s a brain readiness crisis. And until we address it, no amount of tutoring or tech will close the gap.
