Before the snow flew, the finished their fall XC season with a Flying Fast final mile time trial — including 15 of 18 PRs — and a Thanksgiving gathering of nine of our “turkeys” joining us for the Naperville Turkey Trot 5k.

As always, we are thankful for our parents and athletes as we complete another season of “Running for FUN and PRs!”

First mile time trial of our second session, produced a third of our clocking sub-7 minute finishes.

Coming off of her 11th place NAPER Prairie Conference Meet finish, Estella P. said she didn’t know what her PR was for the mile this year, since the middle schoolers race two-miles. So we told her to feel confident to go out a little faster.

She did! And she kept the swift pace thoughout, running away with a 6:19 (we’ll call it a PR) first, leading our group.

Tommy R (6:43), Naishya M (6:52, who was also at her first practice), Zeno A (6:52), Elaine C. (6:59) and Sofia L (6:59) all also clocked-in with sub-7s.

While all of our had great efforts, special shout out to Teresa P (10:11), who returned from a neck injury to run her first mile timed of the season.

Week 2 of Session 1 of our fall XC camp concluded with a quick and competitive mile time trial that featured examples of Coach Al Carius’ life motto, “Run for FUN and Personal Bests.”

Tommy R took out it out in the first loop with a pace that would net him a 6:19 PR, only being caught by Ethan H, who also bested his last year’s top mark by 1 second — with a winning time of 6:18.

Vance P (6:32), Zeno A (6:36) and Tommy C (6:53) all finished with strong sub-7 mile marks!

Remembering Legendary Cross Country and Track & Field Coach Al Carius H’06 - North Central College Athletics 09/09/2025

Wildcat Cross Country and Track and Field Camps stole our motto, “RUN for FUN and PRs from legendary North Central College XC Cross Country Coach Al Carius. Al didnt mind, in fact he came several times to spread his philosophy to our young runners

Not only was AL one of the greatest coaches of all-time. But he was one of the greatest XC parents of all-time. I was honored to be able to have a hand in coaching his son Brent at Waubonsie Valley and announce his brother Sam’s slugging on the Warrior baseball field.

Al was always supportive and engaged with his son’s athletics as well as their programs.

His impact on so many, especially those in the Naperville running community, is immense. Wildcat Cross Country and Track and Field Camps offer our sincerce thoughts, prayers and condolences to the Carius and North Central College families.❤️🙏
