Golf Shop reminders as
we head into Fall
It is so good to see members coming back and familiar faces back on the golf course. It has been a long, hot and wet summer and personally I am looking forward to the cooler weather and more activity at the Club.

I have a few items to remind you about before we get to the good stuff. Tournament sweeps winnings and gift certificates expired Sept. 30, but we will give you an additional week to spend your money until the system automatically deletes them. Please, please, please spend your money before the deadline.

Second, the course and Clubhouse will be closed on Mondays through October and will re-open on Monday, Nov. 4 for the winter season.

Next, calendar of events for 2013-2014 may be accessed and printed from our website. Click here >>

Finally, for non-resident members you may pick up your auto decals in the Golf Shop.

October is when the event schedule begins to heat up. Please circle these dates on your calendars.

• Golf Clinic – Wednesday, Oct. 16, 3 pm / $5 per person
• Couples’ Event – Sunday, Oct. 20, 1 pm shotgun
• Father Glackin’s Outing – Saturday, Oct. 26, 1 pm shotgun
• Ladies’ Opening Day – Tuesday, Oct. 29, 8:30 am shotgun

It’s great to have you back and we look forward to a great year at the Club.

– Gary Kraft, Golf Club Manager

Golf Rules for everyone
The rules of golf look long, complicated and confusing. Sometimes they are. There are, however, only a few rules every golfer should know. I hope by the time season is over, everyone will know the basics. This month’s subject is lost ball and out of bounds. This is one that many golfers may know.
If you lose or hit your ball out of bounds you must go back to where you hit the original ball from, count a one stroke penalty and play your next shot from there.

What you may not know is you can play a provisional ball just in case you think your ball may be lost or if there is possibility your ball may be out of bounds. The player must announce to his group he/she is playing a provisional ball. Something else you may not know is you may keep playing the provisional ball until you reach the point where you think you ball may be lost or is out of bounds. If however, you play a shot from beyond where your original ball is your provisional ball becomes the ball in play and you abandon your original ball even if you find it or if you ball is not out of bounds.

Speed of play remains a major issue
Slower golfers know who they are and in a sense there is nothing wrong with being deliberate once you are standing at the ball. It is all the other things golfers do that prevent them from being ready to play when it is their turn. That is the single biggest frustration golfers have when playing with slow players. Our Course is short and the greens are small, so yardages are easily obtained. Golfers know their game and so once they have a yardage it’s time to grab a club and play golf. The most frustrating part for me is seeing members practically running from shot to shot in an effort to maintain pace of play while the slower golfer plays their normal game. That seems unfair to me when the members who play right along have to compensate for one person. Each player in the group shares equal responsibility and each player should do their part. Why should three players suffer through a round when one isn’t keeping up their end of the bargain? Please think about that.

Spend Credit Book winnings by Sept 30
A reminder before many of you head back north for the summer: Credit book winnings and gift certificates expire Sept.30, 2012. Please spend your winnings before you leave the area or before the deadline.
