I know this is ambitious, but any of these would make a great holiday gift 🎁 so let’s make this happen!!!

This jacket got me through some times… when I was 15, kidnapped in the middle of the night and flown to Utah for simply being depressed, they stripped me down in a cold warehouse, took every personal belonging and sense of identity I had and threw me in military surplus clothes. After putting on the bulky wool pants and an itchy sweater they handed me this jacket. Naive me was trying so hard to find the positives in this terrifying situation. I remember thinking how excited I was to finally have a puffer jacket as the North Face puffers were all the rage my sophomore year and my parents would never buy me one. What I didn’t know at the time is this jacket would serve as my main means of warmth and my only pillow for the next almost two months of winter in the desert… upon arriving over half of my group had frostbite. We didn’t have tents, just tarps, so we slept in sleeping bags with a boiling metal water bottle in a sock between our thighs to help warm what the staff told us were our most important arteries. In those six weeks I never got to clean myself or change my clothes because it was too cold to undress for even a minute and if we sent our clothes in the weekly laundry our only backup was our summer outfit, which basically just took up valuable space in our packs because it was never warm enough to wear… if you are a parent, hold your children close. Punishing the sadness and insecurity out of a child is just so wrong, and I will never stop standing up for the 50,000 kids a year being taken from their homes to experience tough “love”
