Actual thoughts this time change morning... Still on the fence

As if juggling a toddler and a newborn during a pandemic wasn’t enough, I decided this is the perfect time for a DIY gym renovation. It’s going to be beautiful, but what was I thinking?!

Most days, my toddler’s behavior is frustrating. There are days where I patiently handle him with love and there are days when I’m not super proud of our interactions. I can give myself grace on the days where I make mistakes because I know that this little person I’m raising is going to be a result of the journey of his childhood and no single day is going to define him. Each morning, I just show up ready to give him my best for that day.

Treat your body and health the same way. Not every day is going to be perfect. Show up ready to give your body the best you have. Mistakes are acceptable because your fitness is not the result of one individual day, but your consistent commitment.

It is a common misconception to think a waist trainer trains your waist. Waist trainers do have a place in the postpartum world, but should be handled with care and consideration by a specialist. For most women, they prevent the natural use and repair of your core. They also promote downward pressure onto your pelvic floor which can increase your risk for prolapse and pelvic floor dysfunction. The sudden decrease in pressure in your core postpartum can feel uncomfortable. The only way to recreate that stability is by addressing how you breath, how you recruit your core muscles, and progressively overloading the system.

We’ve been a family of 4 for a little over a week and boy, is it a challenge! The newborn days of lounging on the couch just snuggling a baby aren’t quite the same when you have a 2.5 year old jumping all over you 😅😅 we’re so lucky to be able to have this difficult chapter and we wouldn’t trade it for anything! I can’t wait to share my return to exercise activities with you soon!!

.postpartum.athlete posted "200lbs may not be heavy for you, but it is for your abs and vag" referring to pregnant and postpartum athletes and I double tapped it so fast. Then I thought about that quote all night (because I'm 29 weeks pregnant so I don't sleep any more) and I wanted to apply it to other exercises:
-"5 miles might not be hard for you...",
-"The rower might not be hard for you..."
-"Swimming freestyle might not be hard for you..."
But then I started thinking of every day activities that are impacted by the constant outward and downward pressure of pregnancy and the sudden lack thereof during postpartum:
-"Picking up your toddler might not be hard for you..."
-"Getting into the car might not be hard for you..."
-"Washing your hair might not be hard for you..."
-"Standing might not be hard for you..."

Pregnancy and postpartum don't have to be filled with a list of activities that are off limits, but it should be filled with activities that we MODIFY to accommodate and honor the big changes your body is compensating for.
