Points Race 9 in Huntsville was definitely one to remember!
First, we celebrated my racing brother, Brody Dilworth Racing 10th birthday!! Thank you for your competition, your support, and most importantly your friendship! We hope you had the best day American Nightmare!!!
Race day started and it was a very successful, but also one of the most heart warming days we have had at the race track and probably one of our favorites to date!
🔹Sr Honda (Booster):
Heat: P2 → F2: we just didn’t have the speed. So back to the lab we went! Luke Millsaps Racing was a ROCKET!!!!
Feature: P2→ F1 🏁
- Remember how we said it was heartwarming? Well buckle up. During the race, maybe 10 laps in, Abel was catching up to Luke and we all knew it was about to be a battle. We were all excited to watch. When all of a sudden Lukes wheel goes FLYING coming off of turn 4. Luke went into the pits where it was all hands on deck, including Papa and Dad! Abel got the one to go and was so upset for Luke, he did a lap around and spun.. yes on purpose. Say what you want, but he wasn’t about to race without Luke especially when it was something completely out of his control. Ultimately, even after the spin out, and creeping around the race track there was nothing they could do to get Luke back out there, giving Abel the win. He was NOT happy, none of us were. He refused to do a victory lap, pulling his car straight into the scales, and refused to take a picture. He said, “that’s not how I want to win.” As soon as he was cleared he jumped out of the car and went straight to Luke and congratulated him on his success and apologized for his bad luck, gave him a big hug and a little pep talk to get back up and try again!
🔹LWF (Darth Vader):
Heat: P2→F2: no notes, just still trying to figure this car out. Now we have the speed, just need to dial it in!
Feature: P2→F1 🏁
- Great race, VERY fun to watch. Abel and Brody didn’t have anyone to race with, so they decided to race together! It’s always fun watching the two of them together. We sure do miss having him on the track in all races with Abel! These 2 boys were both ROCKETS and it was a great night to dial some things in with good clean competition!
☆During the feature, on the final lap, fireworks started going off from all over. Abel got to take the checkered and his victory lap with fireworks going crazy and everyone in the stands cheering for him! What an incredible moment!! Mama had someone tell her, “it couldn’t have happened to a better kid.” 🤍
🔹Sr Animal (Beetlejuice):
Heat: P1→F1: no notes! It was a great race between him and Luke!
Feature: P1→F1🏁: took off and never looked back! Great run A-main!
- Dad also got to hand Abel the checkered for the first time!
☆& then awards came around. Abel was still very upset about the Sr Honda feature. He got his trophy and Luke got his, and without our knowledge, decided Luke deserved the trophy and feature winner sticker. He said Luke deserved it, handed it over, and took the 2nd place trophy and spot on the podium.
☆ When you hear us talk about our wheelman’s class and heart, this is what we mean. He is truly one of a kind with a heart of gold. No win. No trophy, no amount of points or championships can compare to his heart. We couldn’t be more proud of him!!!
