30 years later he was looking over his college notes and decided to start researching again to narrow down the color patterns on each lake as dictated by the dominant species in the habitat. The research is being conducted by extensive literature search and taxa data bases identifying the geographic distribution and habitats of species of Crayfish in the southeastern US. Presently completed Tennessee(71 species), Kentucky(51 species), Alabama(74species), and Georgia(68 species). Additional factors such as molting colors and seasonal color changes are taken into account. There often is an overlap of distribution which is why some lure colors work in many lakes within a geographical area or water shed. Jim has taken all these factors in consideration when detailing his lures for various geographical regions. You will find the Lake/Lure Chart useful in identifying the indigenous crayfish of southeastern lakes by common name and recommended lure/s. Jim's soft bait trailers are hand made through injection mold and are hand painted with an airbrush to apply specific species characteristics. Crankbaits, jerkbaits, and swimbaits are detailed for specific species and water clarity by request. In field testing we often just fish the trailers Texas Rigged or on a Shaky Head to test the appeal of the trailer independently. Crankbaits and swimbaits need no appeal testing.
