Psyched Up is a performance enhancement company that specializes in improving athletic performance through mental skills training. Call me!

My name is Mesha Gates and I am the owner of Psyched Up. I started this company because I am an avid sports fan and enjoy helping others reach their goals. I have been involved in sports, in some capacity, my whole life. I like promoting healthy competition, physical fitness, and goal achievement. Mental skills is an area of sports that is often neglected, but highly valuable among elite athletes.

Here's a tip on weight loss: It has to start with a change in your mind-set. Being healthy needs to be a priority in your life. You see, we devote more time and effort to things that are priorities (e.g. family, work). Healthy living should be somewhere near the top of the list. You only have one body. It's got to last you the rest of your life. You better start taking care of it. Decide today that you will do better. That's all. Don't try to make the changes all at once. A quick way to drop a couple of pounds to get you going is go for a 10 minute walk every day (or i can give you some things to do around the house) and "flood" your body for 3-4 days by drinking 10-12 cups of water. The body holds on to water when it's not getting enough, thus we have water weight. Simple things folks! (heads up: you're going to be going to the bathroom a lot)

"The single biggest problem in communication is the illusion that it has taken place"--George Bernard Shaw. Communication is key in any relationship, including your relationship with your coaches, teammates, trainers, etc. A simple lesson in communication can take your team to new heights! I've seen it! And I've done it. How well are you communicating? It's an easy fix. Let's chat.

If you come to me and tell me your goal is to lose weight quickly, the first thing I will ask is "arm or leg?" Cutting off a limb is the quickest way to lose weight. Trying to get people to get more specific with their goals: decrease body fat, increase muscle mass, tone, tighten, etc. "Lose weight" is not an acceptable goal. Psyched Up can help you define and reach all your fitness goals. Free consultations!

What goals do you have? Goals should not only focus on what you want to achieve (outcome) but on how you will achieve it as well (process). Many people only focus on the end result and don't take the time to break down their goal into manageable steps that aren't too overwhelming. If you need help coming up with a plan, let's chat. Because when you fail to plan, you plan to fail. Let's achieve success together!

What motivates you? It's important to develop a high level of self-motivation if you want to achieve and maintain success. Extrinsic motivation (money, fame, praise, gifts, etc) can be very powerful, but what happens when those things aren't available? Intrinsic motivation, on the other hand, (feeling of completion, love of the activity, being proud of your accomplishment, etc) is always in your control. No one stops that but you. It's fine to be motivated by different things. But self-motivation is one of the keys to greatness. The will to do your best when nobody's watching, when there is seemingly nothing to gain, choosing to move forward when everybody's doubting you--now that's what champions are made of! Don't wait to be challenged; challenge yourself.

Emotional abuse is very real and can be extremely traumatic. Kudos to the Dolphins' organization for the Incognito suspension (which I'm sure their PR staff demanded). Someone has to hold these players accountable. Playing in the NFL is a privileged job. I believe too many players take it for granted. I know each locker room has its own culture, but abuse should not be condoned. And high five to Martin for standing up for himself and seeking help. ✋Some may call him soft for doing that, but it takes a STRONG man to humble himself and ask for help.

Terrell Owen's appearance on "Iyanla, Fix My Life"highlighted the fact that talent will only get you so far. Your attitude can make or break you. Begging for attention and trying to stand out in a team setting, will put you on the outs with your teammates. We've heard it forever, "There is no 'I' in team." And "the whole is greater than the sum of its parts." Showboating, doing too much, pointing fingers, and placing blame on everybody else, have no place among champions. Choose and maintain a positive attitude. Leave the pouting and throwing fits to your kids.
