The CFB Points Championship is a system designed for the Football Subdivision (FBS) at both the Power-Five (P5) and the Group-of-Five (G5) levels. G5 TEAMS

The College Football Points Championship is a newly designed points scoring system where CFB teams advance into the CFB Playoffs on the basis of their total points accrued over the season. There are no subjective rankings. Instead, a "Leaderboard" is generated on the basis of point earned by teams. This system allows for schools to schedule as they so desire, and rewards the more difficult schedul
es over the easier schedules. There are three phases within this system.
> PHASE ONE is the first phase is the weekly awarding or deducting of points, for each team's regular season win or loss. The accumulative total of these points represent the Regular Season Point Total, or the RSPT. REGULAR SEASON POINTS TOTAL (RSPT) are awarded as follows:
P5 TEAMS
1. Twenty-five (25) points are awarded for every win over another P5 opponent.
2. Twenty (20) points are awarded for every win over a G5 opponent.
3. Ten (10) points are awarded for every win over an FCS opponent.
4. Zero (0) points are awarded for every loss to another P5 opponent.
5. Negative ten (-10) points are awarded for every loss to a G5 opponent
6. Negative twenty-five (-25) points are awarded for every loss to an FCS opponent. Twenty-five (25) points are awarded for every win over a P5 opponent.
2. Twenty (20) points are awarded for every win over another G5 opponent.
3. Zero (0) points are awarded for every loss to either a P5 or G5 opponent.
5. Negative twenty-five (-20) points are awarded for every loss to an FCS opponent. This phase of the points system is a weekly system of scoring points for the CFB Points Championship Leader Board
> PHASE TWO is the awarding of points to Conference Champions, and is known as the Conference Championship Points, or CCP. CONFERENCE CHAMPIONSHIP POINTS (CCP) = 50 Points
> PHASE THREE is the determination of a team's Strength of Schedule. The Strength of Schedule is the accumulative total of points earned by team's opponents. The Strength of Schedule is known as a team's SOS. STRENGTH OF SCHEDULE (SOS) = Total accumulative points of all regular season opponents. CFB Points Championship
The CFB Points Championship is determined by a team's Total Points Earned (TPE). The TPE is the combined total of the three phases in which teams earn points. TPE = RSPT + CCP + SOS
(NOTE): Even though this system awards points for a Conference Champion, a team that doesn't win a Conference Championship may have a higher TPE than a team that does win a Conference Championship. This means Conference Championships are rewarded, but do not automatically qualify a team to make the playoffs. The playoff teams selected are based on the teams with the highest TPE, a the end of the regular season.
