❤️‍🩹 Life update! A few months ago, I noticed some pain in my knee, mostly with some specific movements. I began modifying my movements, I took time off from instruction and other activities, I iced it, I elevated it, I did all the right things - and guess what? It didn’t help.

So, I went to the doctor. Some X-rays and an MRI later, I learned that the cartilage in my left knee is deformed (this was described to me as looking like a mix of cracked tile and potholes) and it was catching on my knee cap. As you can imagine, this was not comfortable.

On Friday, I had an outpatient procedure to smooth out my cartilage and hopefully this solves my pain problem. I’m grateful for the healing prayers, vibes and general good juju that’s already been sent my way, and I will happily accept all that is to come.

For now, I’m icing, elevating, compressing and tolerating weight bearing fairly well. I’m hopeful that the strength training I have done leading up to this will lead me to a quick recovery.

Picture 1: taken before the last class I taught, where I had the opportunity to demonstrate adjusting to what a body needs in the moment, by skipping squats and lunges because the knee just couldn’t even that morning.

Photo 2: heavily medicated post-op selfie on the ride home.

Photo 3: my bandaged (but not swollen!) knee this morning.

I’m feeling well and my pain is more than managed - I actually feel very good today. Grateful for doctors and nurses and anesthesiologists and pharmacists and a family that is full of caretakers.

I’m very much looking forward to getting cleared for movement and exercise, because I feel SO good when I can move.

If you’re looking for encouragement to honor your body and give it what it needs, let this be a gentle nudge for you. Ignoring things won’t make them go away. You deserve to take care of things before they shut you down completely. ❤️‍🩹🫶

For real, though. You really do deserve to feel good. Take care, friends. Of yourselves and of each other. 🫶

For this year’s Annual Giving Campaign at the , I issued a challenge to my 8:00 cardio class - if we raise $500, I will jump in the pool with my clothes on. If we raise $750, property director (and 8:00 cardio’s favorite cheerleader), Blake, joins me, and if we hit $1,000 then associate director (and true MVP), Jeana Beth, joins us! Well, they went and made all three of us have to jump in because they surpassed $1,300!

The Annual Giving Campaign supports programming that is offered for free or at greatly reduced cost to members in need and communities in need of support. Because of your giving, children can learn to swim for free, breast cancer survivors can get the support they need and members who are in a period of financial stress can still maintain their membership. THANK YOU!

Get in, babes. We are taking care of ourselves.

For real. Come with us. It feels GOOD to take care of yourself.

It’s not selfish - it’s required. How are you going to take care of the people you love, if you’re not taking care of yourself?

It doesn’t have to wreck you. It doesn’t have to take up your whole day. Start small. Start where you are. Start with a friend.
