Blue Sox 2026 Game #21 - Houston 6, Blue Sox 4 (17 minutes) - Houston took the series finale, preventing a Blue Sox sweep of the 3-game series. Houston took a 3-0 lead against Blue Sox starter Yusei Kikuchi in the top of the 2nd (run-scoring double by Cam Smith, a triple by Jeremy Pena that scored Smith, and an error by Jose Ramirez that scored Pena from third). In the bottom of the 3rd, Blue Sox catcher Freddy Fermin led off with a double against Houston starter Framber Valdez, moved to third on a groundout, and scored on a wild pitch. That cut Houston's lead to 3-1, and that's how things remained until the top of the 7th. Blue Sox manager Dave Bristol brought reliever Mason Miller in the game to keep the score close. But Miller - who has had a rough season so far - had another bad outing, giving up a 2-run homer to Jose Altuve in the 7th. That put Houston up 5-1, and the Blue Sox battled back against Houston reliever Bryan King, who gave up a solo homer to Juan Soto in the bottom of the 7th and a 2-run homer to Kerry Carpenter in the bottom of the 8th. That made it a 1-run game, but Houston got another run in the top of the 9th as Miller gave up 2 more base hits, putting men on 1st and 3rd - and that was followed by a successful run-scoring squeeze play by Altuve. In the bottom of the 9th, the Blue Sox had the bases loaded with 2 out against Houston closer Josh Hader, but Hader got pinch-hitter Keibert Ruiz to fly out to end the game and notch the save. Valdez got the win, Kikuchi got the loss. For Houston, Altuve had 3 rbis and Smith had 2 stolen bases. The Blue Sox were 1-for-16 with runners in scoring position, and they stranded 10 baserunners.
