We’re proud to celebrate our founder, Ryan Bailey, for his incredible nine years of service on TennGreen Land Conservancy’s Board of Directors! 🌿
Ryan’s passion for conservation runs deep - from his time in the Peace Corps supporting eco-tourism in Costa Rica to his work here in Tennessee protecting rivers, trails, and wild spaces that we all love to explore. His leadership has helped expand places like Rock Island State Park, the Cumberland Trail, and the Obed Wild & Scenic River.
At Cumberland Kayak, we’re inspired every day by Ryan’s commitment to sustainability and his belief that adventure and conservation go hand in hand. We’re honored to continue supporting TennGreen’s mission through our river cleanups, donations, and outdoor experiences that connect people to the natural world.
Join us in congratulating Ryan and thanking him for all he’s done for Tennessee’s lands and waters!
Ryan Bailey’s nine-year journey on TennGreen’s Board of Directors has come to a close, but his commitment to conservation—in Tennessee and beyond—continues to shine through his work and leadership.
From a young age, Ryan was raised to appreciate the outdoors, and that passion has carried into every stage of his life. After studying Environmental Science and Business at UNC-Chapel Hill, he served as a Peace Corps volunteer in Costa Rica, where he helped establish a microfinance bank, supported eco-tourism projects, and worked to strengthen biological corridors. That experience deepened his belief in the interconnectedness of ecosystems, from the forests of Tennessee to the rainforests of Central and South America.
During Ryan’s time on TennGreen’s Board, we protected parks, trails, rivers, and wildlife habitat across the state—expanding iconic places like Rock Island State Park, Obed Wild & Scenic River National Park, the Cumberland Trail State Scenic Trail, South Cumberland State Park (Fiery Gizzard), Ducks Unlimited Park, and more. Ryan’s leadership and support were vital to these and many other achievements.
Ryan has also carried his conservation values into his professional life. As President of Bailey Equipment & Intralogistics, he has made the company Tennessee’s first TRUE Zero Waste–certified business and a model for sustainable industry nationwide. He also owns Cumberland Kayak, a zero-waste outfitter that offers skyline and waterfall paddles, donates 2% of sales to nonprofits like TennGreen and the Cumberland River Compact, and hosts river cleanups to improve water quality. Both companies have been invaluable TennGreen partners, especially through their longtime sponsorship and participation in our annual Hike-a-Thon.
We are deeply grateful for Ryan’s nine years of leadership, his passion for protecting wild places, and his commitment to building a sustainable future. Please join us in thanking him for all he has done for TennGreen and Tennessee.
