"DeShields said he suggested to LaMarre to simply just choke up on the the bat. "He choked up a little bit today and found the barrel," said the Bats manager.

"I've been really, really working with our hitting coach, Tony (Jaramillo), and we've talked about shortening my swing," LaMarre said. "I think that was key, getting short and simple.

"We played a game of pepper one day and (DeShields) saw that I had some bat control when I shortened up," LaMarre said. "It's something that I've done with two strikes in the past. We figured why not and try it and take it to every at-bat. Today was the first time I really tried it. I imagine I'll be choking up again."
