Does your software bill you the same in April as it does in January, even though your revenue doesn't work that way?

Subscription pricing is fixed no matter the season. Transaction-based pricing scales with what you actually process, and when fees pass through to customers (95% of $1M+ facilities do this), the software costs you nothing out of pocket.

Do you know who's actually booking your lessons?

75% of completed bookings are made by someone other than the athlete, usually a parent, often booking for more than one kid at once. When a family can't find a time that works, an occasional customer comes back on their own just 8.8% of the time. A regular comes back 46%.

Stat that surprised us: specialist trainers, the ones who lead with one sport, one skill, earn 1.8x more than generalist teams over six months. $69,894 versus $37,780, median.

Parents aren't shopping for training in general. They're booking to fix one specific thing, and they keep coming back when they can see it get fixed: a progress chart, a PR, a coach's note that says exactly what improved.

Do your trainers lead with a specialty, or is everyone a generalist right now? https://www.baselinepro.com/features/athletes

Quick gut check: do you know which hours on your calendar actually sell?

Across 268,000 bookings, weekday 4-8pm sold 34.6% of posted trainer hours. The same trainers at 10am-2pm sold just 10.5%. Zero-notice booking converted at 38.4%, versus 30.0% when most of a day's notice was required.

What's your booking notice right now, an hour, a day, more? Full breakdown: https://www.baselinepro.com/blog/state-of-lesson-booking

Chasing parents to finish registration gets old fast. One club tried something simple: a 2-hour countdown that starts the moment a family opens the form.

The follow-up list a week later dropped from 24.3% to 13.4%, about 45% shorter. And when families needed more time, 95 out of 98 restarted the window themselves.

Would a deadline like this help your front desk, or scare families off? Full story: https://www.baselinepro.com/blog/two-hour-registration-window

Worth asking before you build the winter membership shelf: what is "unlimited" actually selling?

In last winter's class data, among unlimited members who used the plan at all, the median registered for 1.0 classes a week. The member on a 2x-a-week plan registered 1.3 times. At the typical facility only 17% of unlimited users went past two.

Unlimited sells the option. Most families never exercise it. Which is why the second class per week is the expensive step on the ladder.

Where does your ladder start, and does anyone actually buy the top of it?

26% of new lesson clients never book a second lesson. The median trainer keeps just 24% of new clients past 90 days.

Families rarely leave because the training was bad. They leave because nobody ever showed them it was working.

Facilities that hold onto 80% or more of their first month customers through month six earn 2.4x more. That's $85,345 in median six month revenue against roughly $36,000 for the ones losing over half. Progress charts, PRs on the leaderboard, a coach note a parent can actually read.

A chargeback usually shows up about 27 days after the charge. You get roughly nine days to answer it.

By then the checkout page, the policy that was in force, and the box the customer ticked are a month in the rear view. If you didn't capture them at purchase, you can't go back for them.

About the payments you have to chase.

Most of the time a retried charge is just a recovered payment and that's the end of it. But in our dispute data, charges that collected on the first try won 86% of their disputes. Charges that needed retries won 34%.

Sometimes the payment you chased is a family already halfway out the door.

I'm not saying stop recovering failed payments. Recovered revenue is real revenue. Just treat a retried charge as a flag about the relationship too. A two minute phone call is cheaper than the chargeback that might follow.

Ever had one of those turn into a dispute?

Quick audit: open your bank statement and count the software charges.

Most baseball facilities run 5 to 7 separate platforms. Scheduling, payments, a website builder, an email tool, something for teams. Add subscriptions to processing fees and it clears $15,000 a year.

Twenty minutes. List every tool, what it does, what it costs a year. Circle the overlaps.

Baseline runs scheduling, payments, memberships, teams, and your website in one system, starting at $0 a month on the Base plan.
