We are again beyond grateful to all who helped ensure the safe evacuation of all racers and coaches, and to all who have stepped up to offer support. Here is a fuller accounting of what happened from today's Ski Racing Media.

A fire destroyed the Hotel Alto Nevados and damaged part of the Nevados de Chillán ski area in Chile, forcing the cancellation of the FIS Masters Cup opener. All guests escaped, but many racers returned home with little more than the clothes they were wearing. Lisa Ballard was sitting on

We are incredibly grateful that our RMM friends and their fellow campers at Nevados de Chillán escaped the fire safely.

Many fled with only the clothes they were wearing—some in bathing suits and slippers—and lost their ski equipment, clothing, medications, wallets, passports, and other personal belongings.

The U.S. Embassy has been assisting those who lost their passports, but the group still faces significant logistical challenges as they work to return home.

We know the Rocky Mountain Masters community will rally around our friends and fellow racers as they navigate the difficult days ahead. They may have lost their gear, but not their lives or their spirit.
