A bit about your Sensei

Sensei Mike Maxwell has been training as a martial artist since 1972. He established the system of Mike Maxwell’s American Freestyle Karate in 1987. From 1987 until 2002, Mike was owner and chief instructor of The Fighting Dragons Karate School in Nederland, Tx. With the support of his partner-director Steve Reed (RIP), assistant instructors, students, parents and supporters, Mr. Maxwell saw great success. Below are some of his noted accomplishments:

A total of 3 N.B.L. (Nat’l Black Belt League), “Hall Of Fame Top 25 Sport Karate School” awards; in 1994-#16, 1995-#11 and once more in 1996-#15.

Mr. Maxwell has been the Sensei/Coach/Trainer of a total of 12 N.B.L. and S.K.I. (Sport Karate International), World Champions, 11 Silver and Bronze Belt Champions, 11 National Champions, and a total of 71 N.B.L. Conference, S.K.I., S.O.C.K. (Southern Organization Of Competitive Karate), and A.O.K. (Amateur Organization of Karate), 1st Place Champions.

In August of 2014, Mr. Maxwell was inducted to The U.S.A. Martial Arts Hall Of Fame in San Antonio Texas. The honor was presented to him by Master Dr. Jim Thomas (co-founder and co-creator of The USAMAHOF), and Hall of Fame-er, Professor Gary Lee.
