The Kentucky State Police (KSP) Trooper involved in the incident was not injured.

The bear is deceased at this time, and no school property was damaged during the incident.

Thankfully, the situation was handled without injury to the Trooper or damage to the school.

BLACK BEAR ENTERS FIELD HOUSE IN HARLAN COUNTY
Harlan County, Ky. — Around 9:40 p.m., a Kentucky State Police trooper contacted Post 10 in Harlan after reporting that a black bear had gained access to the James A. Cawood Field house.

The trooper discovered garbage outside the field house and found a door open. The bear had entered the building and became aggressive, lunging at the trooper and backing him into a corner.

The trooper discharged his fi***rm, striking the bear in an effort to protect himself from harm.

Kentucky Fish and Wildlife officials were notified and were en route to the field house to assess the situation.

‼️ However, all further surgery registrations can be added to our waiting list for the spring clinic‼️

We are excited to announce that CVM (Christian Veterinarian Mission) will be coming back to offer a fall clinic this month!

We have learned that this has been a needed resource in our community through the waiting list that are developed after each clinic.
For surgeries we honored our waiting list by giving them appointments first. Which means we are limited on openings for surgeries. We do still have a few spots available.

So Sign up and register, and the first few people will get the last remaining spots while the rest will be added to our waiting list for the spring clinic.

Save the dates! We will be having a series of Joyous Voting Candidate Forums on Sept 19, Oct 10, Oct 24, 2026 from 6:00- 8:00 pm.

Candidates and Incumbents are invited to table and to speak to the crowd about their platform and their plans. These events are scheduled so candidates can tell us what they are about. Informed voting is Joyous Voting.

Years ago Election Day was like Christmas! Even the children looked forward to being out of school and playing on the election ground. Back then, adults looked forward and were excited for civic participation! We want that to happen again.

These are free public events! Come out for food, music, & community!
