New Bern City Soccer Club – First Season Review

New Bern City Soccer Club’s inaugural season marked the beginning of what was initially just an idea—one that quickly grew into a competitive and resilient squad. The club was first conceived in July 2025, with the support of key sponsors who helped bring the vision to life and establish participation in Liga Latina De New Bern.

The early months focused on building identity and cohesion. Throughout August, September, and October, the team held a series of scrimmages that served as both evaluation and preparation. These matches were critical in shaping the squad, testing player combinations, and setting expectations ahead of the club’s first official fixture.

On November 5th, 2026, New Bern City SC played its first competitive match. However, the lead-up to that moment was not without its challenges. An initial roster had to be significantly restructured, with 7–8 new players joining just before the season began. This late turnover impacted early chemistry, and the team struggled out of the gate, losing its first five matches.

Despite the difficult start, the response from the squad was a defining feature of the season. The team regrouped, developed stronger on-field relationships, and began to find its rhythm. What followed was an impressive turnaround—a five-game winning streak that shifted momentum entirely. In fact, after the opening five losses, the club went on to lose just once in the next seven matches, demonstrating both resilience and growth.

The second half of the season introduced a new set of challenges, particularly with player availability. Injuries, scheduling conflicts, and roster limitations made consistency difficult to maintain. As a result, the team finished the regular season with a record of 3 losses, 2 draws, and 2 wins during that stretch.

Overall, New Bern City SC concluded its first campaign with a final league record of 7 wins, 2 draws, and 9 losses, placing 7th in the standings. While the record reflects a season of ups and downs, it was enough to secure a place in the playoffs, with the club finishing inside the top 8 of 10 teams and earning a quarterfinal berth.

For a first-year club, the season can be viewed as a strong foundation. The team demonstrated the ability to adapt, improve, and compete, even in the face of adversity. The lessons learned—from roster management to in-game consistency—will be critical moving forward.

Most importantly, New Bern City SC established itself as a legitimate competitor in the league and laid the groundwork for future success. The inaugural season was not just about results, but about building a culture, identity, and belief—elements that will define the club in seasons to come.
