🥊 A LITTLE ABOUT MY BOXING MIND…

People see me coaching fighters, but a lot of people don’t really know what type of boxing coach I am.

My goal isn’t to teach somebody how to throw punches.

I’m trying to build complete, universal boxers.

I study different schools of boxing — American, Cuban, Soviet/Eastern European, Detroit, Philly — and take principles that actually work and teach my fighters how to understand them.

Everything starts with stance, balance and footwork.
I believe the rear leg is the control center — balance, defense, positioning and power.

I teach my fighters to box off the back foot and fight off the front foot.

Pressure doesn’t mean recklessly walking forward.
Defense doesn’t mean running.
Power doesn’t mean loading up.

I want fighters who can think, adjust, defend, counter, pressure, box and fight when necessary.

And especially in amateur boxing, I teach them to understand how to WIN rounds clean punches, combinations, variety, defense, controlling the exchanges and knowing when to close the round strong.

I’m not trying to manufacture another version of somebody else’s fighter.

I’m trying to develop a fighter who has answers.

That’s the boxing mind behind Dare To Be Great Boxing here in little ol’ New Castle, PA.

Blue-collar work with a thinking man’s approach. 🥊🧠

Complete. Universal. Adaptable.

That’s DTBG Boxing.

🔥🔥🔥 THE LEAD HAND IS MORE THAN A JAB.

Watch Mayweather’s lead hand in this sequence.

He’s touching.
Measuring.
Probing.
Controlling range.
Interrupting rhythm.
And most importantly… creating reactions.

Floyd wasn’t always throwing that lead hand because he expected it to land.

Sometimes he was asking a questions.

What are you going to do when I touch you?

Parry it?
Reach for it?
Shell up?
Pull back?
Try to counter?

Once Canelo showed him the answer, he had information to build his offense around.

That’s what made Floyd’s lead hand work so 🔥.

The jab could score.

The lead hand could control you.

And sometimes the punch that eventually hurt your opponent was set up by something that never even landed.

I tell my fighters all the time:

Make him show you something… then make him pay for showing it.

That lead hand is your measuring stick.
Your radar.
Your distraction.
Your range finder.
And sometimes the key that unlocks the whole offense.

The casual fan watches the right hand land.

The student of boxing watches what happened BEFORE the right hand. 🥊🧠🔥

Great coaches don’t just train fighters — they teach a system. A system creates habits, identity, and consistency. Talent can win fights, but a system builds fighters.

🥊 As a coach, I can teach you how to throw a jab.

I can teach you footwork.
Defense.
Positioning.
Timing.
Ring IQ.
How to make adjustments.

But there are some things no coach can give you.

I can’t give you the experience that comes from stepping through those ropes.

I can’t give you the determination to keep showing up when nobody’s clapping.

I can’t give you the courage to walk toward another trained fighter when every instinct tells you to walk away.

I can’t give you purpose.

I can’t give you desire.

Those things have to come from within.

The old-school coaches used to say:

“A coach can sharpen the blade… but the steel has to be there first.”

Talent may get you noticed.

Discipline keeps you training.

But character is what carries you when the lights come on.

The greatest fighters I’ve ever been around all had one thing in common…

They wanted it more than anyone could teach it. 🥊🔥
