🚲🛴 Know Before You Ride! 🛴🚲

With warmer weather here, we’re seeing more bicycles, e-bikes, scooters, and other micromobility devices on our roadways and sidewalks. Before you ride, take a moment to review PennDOT’s PA Micromobility Information Sheet to understand what is and isn’t legal in Pennsylvania.

Some key reminders:
✅ E-bikes are permitted on roadways and in bike lanes when operated lawfully.
✅ Bicycles must have proper lighting when operated between sunset and sunrise.
⚠️ Electric scooters cannot be legally operated on public roadways and may only be used on private property.
⚠️ Different devices have different requirements for licensing, registration, helmets, and passenger use.

Whether you’re riding for fun, transportation, or exercise, knowing the law helps keep everyone safe.

It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Edward "Ed" Hughes II, longtime owner of the Whistle Stop Bike Shop in New Freedom.

Ed, along with his beloved wife Kay, owned and operated the shop from 1993 until Kay's passing, becoming a beloved fixture along the York Heritage Rail-Trail.

Please keep the Hughes family in your thoughts and prayers during this difficult time. Ride on, Ed — and thank you for all the miles you helped us travel.
