Veteran's Adaptive Sports & Training

Veteran's Adaptive Sports & Training VAST promotes lifelong health and well-being of veterans with disabilities. VAST is a 501(c)(3) non-profit program of Pineland Farms, Inc.

We strive to offer year-round activities based on the needs and wants of veterans. Programs are FREE and equipment is provided. Current sports include:
• Archery
• Cycling (hand and recumbent)
• Nordic Pole Walking
• Orienteering
• Cross-country Skiing
• Snow Shoeing WC basketball

Learn a new activity or practice your skills with Army Veteran, Occupational Therapist, and two-time Olympic Biathlete, Kristina Sabasteanski. Research shows that daily physical activity for people with disabilities results in reduced stress, depression and secondary medical conditions and increases self-esteem, education success, employment rates and quality of life. With 21 million physically disabled Americans, including thousands of military personnel who’ve sustained serious injuries while on active duty, this is an important community need.

Last Thursday, we had an incredible turnout for our walk, lunch and tour of Peaks Island and the 5th Maine Museum.

Our tour of the 5th Maine Museum serves as a poignant reminder of the importance of connecting with fellow veterans just as the veterans of the 5th Maine Regiment did so many years ago.

In hopes of catching the 9/11 Memorial lights from Pineland Farms, our group of veterans started the evening with an enjoyable game of disc golf.

We ended just as the lights were scheduled to appear. Unfortunately, although we could clearly see Mt Washington, there must have been mist or something to block our view of the lights. The night was not wasted at all, as we spent the evening, enjoying the beautiful scenery, sharing stories, and being among the camaraderie of fellow Veterans.

We saw many other cars pull into Pineland to also catch a view. Everyone was talkative and helpful as we were all were deciding whether waiting longer would help us see the lights. Getting together on a peaceful night, and supporting each other was a wonderful way to remember all those lost on 9/11 and the bravery of first responders and service members.

Not sure if they found a Purple Heart veteran to take advantage of this amazing opportunity, but was worth sharing. Reach out to them directly for more information.

We have an amazing opportunity for two Purple Heart Veterans, but we need to act fast!!!

Erik Olson came on a ReBoot Moose Hunt, and he’s looking to pay it forward! He booked a bear hunt last year, but a recent promotion means he can’t attend.

Well, that’s where we come in! Erik has donated his two hunting slots from 9/6-9/13 with Bullets and Broadheads Guide Service to two Purple Heart Veterans! The application process is open for 48-hours from NOW.

If you are a veteran who meets the criteria, and you can attend the hunt timeframe at Nesowdnahunk Campground, please email [email protected]

Hunters are responsible for getting to Maine and back home, license, butchering, trophies.

Thank you,Erik, for this opportunity!!!! You are !!!!

What an incredible weekend with our Veterans at the Run for the Troops event! 🇺🇸🚴‍♂️

Our group enjoyed nearly 50 miles of cycling using adaptive trikes and bikes as needed over two days, along with plenty of opportunities to relax, reconnect, and enjoy the camaraderie that makes these weekends so special.

The evenings were just as memorable, with a lively band, Toilet Bowl races, competitive co****le, camping, and peaceful evening walks along the lake. Thankfully, the rain held off long enough for us to finish the ride and enjoy the weekend to the fullest!

Great miles, great memories, and even better company. The friendships and memories made this weekend will last a long time. ❤️🇺🇸

Thank you to Run for the Troops and Schneider Electric for another amazing weekend and all your support with providing the trikes and supporting our Veterans!
