Been moving differently around Ascent lately 👢 — I fell from the wall a few weeks ago and well, had an ankle injury (partial ligament tear, bone bruising, the full deal).

Boot → crutches → now a knee scooter.

THE SILVER LINING
Slowing down forced some good stuff:

*Letting my husband drive me around (humbling, but I'm learning)
*Actually resting instead of just saying I will
Rebuilding my training — no barbell, so I've gone deep on dumbbells + cables. More bodybuilding style than I'm used to... and honestly? Kind of fun.

THE BEST PART
A member showed up with THIS 👇

A rubber duck horn for my scooter — because apparently I need lights and sirens to get around the gym now.

THE REAL TAKEAWAY
Little things like that, plus members checking in and people slowing down to walk with me, have made this so much easier.

Grateful for this community. 💙

Had a blast singing, dancing, eating, AND climbing with friends at Central Rock Gym Glastonbury’s Pride night. Well done!!

Every Mothers’ Day weekend I spend time weeding, prepping soil, and planting. This year was perfect. Lots of perennials returned , which made this year easy and not so expensive. Special thanks to my SIL .bailis for my wire basket. I didn’t know I needed this, but it is truly perfect for harvesting! Pulled fresh mint from the garden today. Woot woot! I’m curious- what are you Mothers’ Day traditions?

To celebrate her 1 year anniversary of Strength training with us at Ascent, Mariela came in with a homemade flan and a written thank you note! A handwritten note? Who does that anymore? Anyway, she made my week! Watching her and Marissa lift last Saturday at the Lift for Change All Women’s Powerlifting meet made me proud! Way to represent our community and strong women!

No one waited here to feel ready. They just started. Look what happened. They decided they want to be strong, they put in time to train, and they found a community of strong women to be a part of. They congrats to our lifters, coaches, and organizers today! I feel thankful to be in such a positive and empowering community!

Big congrats to Lucy! Can you tell puppy glasses every Tuesday for 12 weeks! You still have a lot to learn, Lucy, but you’re doing great so far! Welcome to the family!

5 years ago, I didn’t recognize my own body.
I had always been active.
I ate mostly whole foods.
I thought I was doing “enough.”
And yet…
Joint pain.
Low energy.
Poor sleep.
Hot flashes.
I remember thinking, What is happening to me?
And when I looked around, I saw so many other women quietly struggling too.
Fast forward 5 years…
I feel like a completely different woman.
Not because I chased shredded abs.
Not because I followed a perfect meal plan.
Not because I tracked every bite.
But because I learned how to work with my body instead of against it.
This didn’t happen overnight.
It came from education, experimentation, mindset shifts, and small, sustainable changes over time.
Now, this is my mission—
To help mid-life women understand what’s happening in their bodies,
to look at their lives through a different lens,
and to know that there is so much hope.
We’re not chasing perfection here.
We’re building strength, energy, confidence, and a lifestyle that actually supports you.
✨ Better sleep
✨ More energy
✨ Less frustration with your body
✨ A sense of control and empowerment again
If you’re ready for a different approach…

I’m a strength coach.
I lift heavy.
I eat well.
I sleep well.

…and I still have thoughts about my belly fat sometimes.

And lately I’ve been asking myself:

👉 Is this even the thing I should be focused on?

I wrote a blog about it—honestly, for myself as much as for my clients.

If you’ve ever felt this way, I think it will resonate 💛

👉 Go to my website and click “Belly Fat” in the menu to read it

I’d love to hear what you think.
