There's rules to this sport, I wrote me a manual, a step by step book-let, for you to get … your kitesurf on!
Rule nombre Uno: If you're going out solo, you better go home yo!
The best way to tell if there's enough wind is that there will be other kiters out. If you're not sure about the wind and you're alone on the beach, today's not the day.
Number two: Don't nobody know your gear like you.
Don’t let other people pump your kite & adjust your knots or gear. They may say they know what they're doing but you can’t ever be sure!
Number three: Beware the things you can and can't see. Talk to locals about obstacles and things that can make your day go bad. Be aware of your surroundings!
Number four: I could say much more but if your right hand is forward, then it's your turn to roll bud. Right hand going forward means you're the one with right of way. Then, If you're the upwind kiter, you keep your kite high when crossing close to another kiter.
Five: Stay alive! Practice your safety releases, water rescues and self landings in light (or no) wind and with assistance. When things get hairy, you need to focus on what's going on, not how to use your gear.
6: Make sure it’s all in the mix. Kite(s), pump, lines, board(s), harness, leash, booties, helmet, impact vest … and the list goes on. Take inventory of the gear you'll need before you leave the house.
7: Turn it up to 11! This is something the wind can do with no warning. Being ready for it means bringing a kite that is rated for the range(and then some).
8: Something you gots to give, to get..It's Respect!
9: I might've already said it, so don’t forget it, get your gear in check … fix it 'fore it break!
10. Fly high, touch the sky and add this to your wits:
"When you dance with the winds, always know your limits"
