The Budweiser Clydesdales Are Leaving One Tradition Behind 🐴❤️

With their feathered legs, gleaming coats and unmistakable presence, the Budweiser Clydesdales have been admired for generations. But one familiar part of their appearance is changing.

In 2023, Anheuser-Busch confirmed that it had stopped docking its Clydesdales’ tails. The decision followed years of criticism from animal-welfare campaigners.

Tail docking, which removes part of a horse’s tail, was historically carried out on some working draft horses because of concerns that long tails could become caught in harnesses. Campaigners questioned why the practice continued for horses appearing at shows and promotional events.

A horse’s tail does far more than complete its appearance. It helps swat away flies and other insects, and its movement is part of how a horse expresses itself.

Anheuser-Busch said the safety and wellbeing of its horses was a priority. Future generations of its famous Clydesdales will be able to keep their full, natural tails.

These horses will still be every bit as magnificent. And this change is a reminder that even a long-held tradition can evolve when we take a closer look at what horses need. ❤️

🐴 From Pony Club to Olympic Gold: Nick Skelton’s Inspiring Career 🥇🇬🇧

Few careers in British showjumping have combined longevity, resilience and Olympic success quite like that of Nick Skelton. From riding a tiny Welsh pony as a toddler to standing on top of the Olympic podium at 58, his story became one of equestrian sport’s most memorable journeys. 🐎✨

🌱 Where It All Began

Skelton’s love of horses started remarkably early. He began riding at just 18 months old, aboard a Welsh pony named Oxo. That childhood introduction developed into a career lasting more than four decades. Along the way, Skelton became a familiar figure on British teams and competed at seven Olympic Games.

Long before Olympic glory, he was already setting records. In 1978, riding Lastic, Skelton cleared a remarkable 7ft 7in fence at Olympia, establishing a British high-jump record. He later won the prestigious Hickstead Derby three times during the 1980s and accumulated European and World Championship medals as well as a World Cup title. 🏆

💔 An Injury That Could Have Ended Everything

In September 2000, Skelton suffered a devastating fall that resulted in a serious neck injury. He initially retired from competition in 2001, seemingly bringing an extraordinary career to a premature end.

But Skelton wasn't finished. 💪

After recovering, he returned to competition in 2002. His comeback was particularly remarkable given the physical challenges he had faced; the FEI notes that his career also included a hip replacement and two knee operations.

🥇 London 2012: Olympic Glory at Last

After decades at the top of the sport, Skelton finally secured an Olympic medal at his sixth Games.

At London 2012, riding the exceptional stallion Big Star, he helped Great Britain win the team jumping gold medal alongside Scott Brash, Ben Maher and Peter Charles. 🇬🇧🥇 Skelton and Big Star also finished fifth individually.

Yet an even bigger moment was still ahead.

⭐ Rio 2016: Skelton and Big Star Make History

Four years later, Skelton arrived at Rio 2016 for his seventh Olympics.

At 58 years old, he and Big Star produced two clear rounds to reach a dramatic six-rider jump-off for individual gold. Skelton then delivered another clear round in 42.82 seconds, a performance none of his rivals could beat. 🐎💨🥇

The result gave Great Britain its first-ever individual Olympic showjumping gold medal. It was also Skelton's second Olympic title, following the London team victory.

👋 The Perfect Farewell

In 2017, Skelton and Big Star retired together, receiving an emotional farewell at the Royal Windsor Horse Show. Skelton said the sport had given him more than he could ever have hoped for and paid tribute to the horses, owners, family and supporters who had shared his journey. ❤️🐴

From his first pony Oxo to his unforgettable partnership with Big Star, Nick Skelton's career became a story of determination, recovery and extraordinary longevity.

Sometimes the road to gold isn't straight. Sometimes it takes decades—and one very special horse. 🐎🥇🇬🇧

Sometimes You Need the Silence of Horses to Recover From Humans 🐴🌿

“There are times when you need the silence of horses to recover from humans.”

There’s something deeply comforting about those words. ❤️

Life can get loud. Not just with traffic, phones, notifications, and endless conversations, but with expectations, opinions, misunderstandings, and the constant pressure to explain ourselves.

Sometimes, we simply get tired of people.

And that’s when the quiet presence of a horse can feel like medicine for the soul. 🐴✨

Horses Don’t Ask You to Explain Yourself 🌿

A horse doesn’t need to know why you’re having a difficult day.

It doesn’t ask why you’re quieter than usual, why your plans changed, or why something that “shouldn’t” bother you still hurts.

You can simply stand beside a horse and exist.

No explanations. No pretending. No carefully chosen words.

Just breathing. Just being. 💛

There is an extraordinary peace in sharing space with an animal that communicates without needing a conversation.

A flick of an ear. A gentle breath. The warmth of a shoulder beside you. The quiet sound of hooves against the earth.

Sometimes, that’s enough.

Silence Can Be Healing 🌅

We often think healing requires talking.

And sometimes it does.

But healing can also happen in silence.

It can happen while walking beside a horse through a field, brushing dust from its coat, leaning against a stable door, or standing together watching the sun disappear behind the hills.

In those moments, the noise of the world begins to fade. 🌄

Your breathing slows.

Your shoulders relax.

The thoughts racing through your mind become a little quieter.

Nothing has necessarily changed, yet somehow everything feels more manageable.

Horses Bring Us Back to the Present 🐎

Humans have a remarkable ability to live everywhere except the present moment.

We replay yesterday.

We worry about tomorrow.

We imagine conversations that haven’t happened and revisit conversations we wish had gone differently.

Horses bring us back to now.

When you’re with a horse, you notice the wind moving through the grass. 🌾 You hear birds in the distance. You feel the ground beneath your boots. You become aware of another living creature standing peacefully beside you.

For a little while, the rest of the world can wait.

Sometimes You Just Need the Horses ❤️

There are days when good company means laughter, conversation, and being surrounded by people you love.

And then there are days when good company has four legs, a mane, and absolutely no interest in asking you to explain your life. 🐴

Both kinds of company matter.

But when the world has asked too much of you, there’s something special about walking away from the noise and finding a quiet field, an open sky, and a horse waiting nearby.

Because sometimes you don’t need advice.

You don’t need another conversation.

You don’t even need answers.

Sometimes, you just need the silence of horses. 🐴🌅❤️
