Originally built by GTE Spacenet (search on Wikipedia) as a microwave repeater linking their huge satelitte uplink antennas down in a quarry in Joliet, IL to downtown Chicago & the world. We purchased this site, as well as 3 others in the 90's as part of a surplus sale opportunity. Today, the tower houses FM radio, private microwave, wireless internet, ham radio, smart data comms, HFT, utility smart controllers, cellular telephone, NOAA weather radio, 911 dispatch, and 2 way radio for local busses.
