Many of our long time customers may remember a GREAT young player from NJ, Danny "Kid Delicious" Basavich. I am sorry to have to tell our friends that Danny, at the age of 47, passed in his sleep on May 15, 2023. We will always treasure the memories of his visits to Crown Billiards and his friendship with our son Jeffrey.

For those that aren't aware Jean Balukas has played at Gold Crown Billiards when it was owned by Sy and Dolly Eckstat. Sy REALLY loved to promote and sponsor "the Girls" and even had a Wall of Fame photo display of the up and coming female players!

Born in Brooklyn, NY, Jean started playing at just 4 years old. A few years later at the age of 9, she was competing in the U.S. Open Pool Championship and at 13 winning the women's division of the BCA U.S. Open Straight Pool Championship while defeating five-time champion Dorothy Wise along the way. From there, she dominated winning the U.S. Open 7 years in a row and accumulating 6 world championships plus 100 professional competition first-place finishes with 38 majors. She was the only woman to compete with men in professional play in her era and took a stand that women should not be treated differently from the men. Jean will forever be remembered as one of greatest to ever do it, breaking the glass ceiling in the sport, and as a BCA Hall of Famer 👏
