⚠️EVIDENCE BASED⚠️ info Re: 🥵Heat Injury/ Emergency Cooling 🥶

There's SO MUCH mythology out there about appropriate means of cooling a dog in an emergency situation.

🌡️RAPPID COOLING is the most vital component if a dog is hyperthermic. It is an absolute myth that cooling a dog too quickly can put a dog into shock, or somehow increase body heat. That is simply a false statement.

🧊 ICE WATER is ok. WET TOWELS are ok. SUBMERSION in COLD WATER is ok. Literally anything that is colder than the dog is okay.

🚨 COOL FIRST then transport. Hyperthermia is an IMMEDIATE threat to life. And your veterinarian is not more skilled at dousing your dog with cold water than you. IV fluids an antibiotics are secondary/supportive treatment. Treat what is killing the dog first. Then transport.

Thank you to Veterinary Tactical Group for putting together this fantastic graphic!!

THIS is Cynopraxic dog training. THIS is Least Intrusive Minimally Aversive (LIMA). Dog training requires balance and I won't allow LIMA to be high jacked by those who wish to change it's definition or cherry pick portions only to suit their agenda.

*2023 IACP Annual Educational Conference*
Post 1/2

With the legislative climate pushing for LIMA compliance, it is the wish of the IACP to correctly identify the TRUE meaning and process of cynopraxic training, and the use of Least Intrusive, Minimally Aversive (LIMA) principle.

Steven Lindsay is the author of “Handbook of Applied Dog Behavior and Training, Vol. 1: Adaptation and Learning”, “Handbook of Applied Dog Behavior and Training, Vol. 2: Etiology and Assessment of Behavior Problems”, and “Handbook of Applied Dog Behavior and Training, Vol. 3: Procedures and Protocols”, and he is the founder of the “LIMA principle guidelines”.

A veteran, public speaker, and dog trainer, Steven created a series of volumes for veterinarians, animal scientists, dog owners, trainers, consultants, and counselors who find these books a benchmark reference and handbooks concerning fair, humane management and control of dogs.

As a recipient of the IACP International Member Hall of Fame, Steven Lindsay felt welcomed by our many members who expressed their appreciation for his work when he presented at the 2022 Annual Educational Conference. This led to continuing discussions of how to best serve our membership and the training community through a deeper understanding of cynopraxic study and LIMA principles. Steven suggested a potential certification and that began the journey of the 2023 LIMA: The Real Look Inside Cynopraxic Training with Steven Lindsay - An IACP Certification Course.

This will be a two and half day course which will include a certification exam and will run concurrently with the IACP Annual Educational Conference. There will be time during the course for learning, sharing and contemplation through instruction and small groups, the topics of “fair exchange” within the dog/human relationship, and the improvement of the dog’s quality of life.

This course will be limited to 120 attendees, with 50 of those being held exclusively for IACP and NADOI members who will attend at a special rate until June 1. Prerequisites will be required to register and those participating will be eligible for LIMA certification. Prerequisites will be available on the registration form.

The LIMA Certification Course will begin on Tuesday, September 25th. It will be a 2.5 day course ending on the afternoon of Thursday, September 28th.

Purchase of the LIMA Certification Course includes lunch daily plus access to the following opportunities at the IACP Conference:

The first step in the UK9 training process is the loose leash heel, we practice this skill in every private lesson or everyday of a Board and Train program. No matter if you're with us for behavioral modification or general obedience, this is the first step. Creating calm, creating a partnership rooted in trust, establishing the foundations of boundaries and becoming the leader your dog needs you to be.

That's the Unified K9 Way ⚜️🐾🦴

Shout out to these awesome clients for becoming the leaders their dogs need them to be on the post-Board and Train follow up lesson and Week 2 of our 6 week private lesson package.

Clients like this make the work so fun and give me life. Goose, a service dog in training, had his first lesson at his actual new home with his owner, Quentin. this gave Q the ability to bond with Goose by generalizing his obedience with him on the other end of the leash instead of the trainer, reinforcing mastered behaviors, and sometimes correcting those we don't want (and that he already has a foundation with knowing they are inappropriate behaviors) as well as using his skills to self settle when there's nothing to do but to be a regular dog. Goose still has about 2 more months worth of training to go before he's permanently in his new home but this handler team are going to rock it in training.
