NOLA Guppies is a youth swim lessons program offered in my own backyard in Uptown New Orleans! When I was little, my sisters and I, along with all the neighborhood kids, would grab our towels and our flip-flops and walk down the street to my aunt's house for our summer swim lessons. It was so much easier to simply head down the street to a gorgeous, sunny backyard for swim lessons than to a huge f
itness center every day. Swimming lessons in the backyard are both easy and fun for the parents and the children. This summer will be my fourth summer teaching swimming lessons, and I cannot be more excited. As an American Red Cross certified lifeguard, safety is my number one priority. I promote a safe learning environment by reviewing pool rules with the children before every lesson and asking that the parents participate in enforcing the pool rules as well. Teaching swimming lessons has taught me many valuable lessons, but the most important is that every child learns to swim at a different pace. It is for this reason that I take the time to get to know each child so that I may help them learn in a way that is most beneficial to them. Last year, I was a swimming dragon, a backstroke bear, and a freestyle flamingo all in one day because that's how the kids wanted to learn! It's hard work, but swimming is a skill that every child must master and NOLA Guppies is more than happy to be a part of this milestone!
