Artivism generates discussion amongst its audiences and opens a dialogue around important issues. We prioritize communication of social message over esoteric performance, often using multimedia techniques in our work. We believe that art, and specifically movement, can communicate perspective and experience across gaps in culture, language, and tradition that might otherwise remain unbreachable. T
he collaborative is comprised of dance professionals with years of experience in both performance and instruction. Trained in a great variety of techniques Artivism's repertoire displays the expertise of company members ranging from movements of the African diaspora to Ballet. We believe in the power of movement to transform our health, our lives, and our communities. We are committed to providing accessible, holistic, and body positive experiences for all of our clients and our commitment to social activism includes a “no one turned away” payment policy and scholarship program. Every year Artivism hosts MOVEment for Change; a platform for socially conscious artists to share their vision for a world made better through artistry. Curated by ADT, this cabaret-style event brings together a collection of artists from various disciplines (including dance, theatre, poetry, stand-up comedy, and visual arts) for a night of sharing and discussion. In addition, the New Orleans based company creates an original full-length performance, an excerpt of which was nominated for Best Performance at the Gambit Classical Arts Awards 2018 and 2019. Other performances include dancing for local New Orleans artists and Artistic Director, Sophia Rabinovitz, works as the Movement Director for the Cole Williams Band. We run weekly dance therapy classes at the Juvenile Justice Intervention Center for incarcerated youth in Orleans Parish and teach after school dance classes through the DEA Education Outreach Program- a national initiative to keep students away from drug use. We also work with ArcGNO, a local non-profit for people with intellectual and developmental disabilities, teaching weekly movement classes. It’s student showcases week! Yay! We’re looking forward to sharing what our youth have been up to this semester with their friends and families.
For the adults we have:
Monday: A special opportunity to learn the choreography from production “Personal Space” currently running at until May 17th!
6:45pm Liv will be teaching Adult Musical Theater!
Tuesday: brings back Krump at 6:45pm and you can Vogue it out afterwards with at 8pm
Wednesday: Sweat with at 5:30pm for Dance Conditioning and
brings you another exciting class in his Breakin’ series at 6:45pm
Friday: the always excellent has another fabulous Heels class at 6:45pm
Saturday: beauty and grace at 10am Ballet with
Sunday: Contemporary at 3:30pm with featured here in this video with live music!!!
