This checklist is a pretty simple, but good place to start if you’re struggling with driver

1) Setup: Ball position inside left heel, grip of club pointing to belt buckle, wider stance, slight shoulder tilt (left shoulder high)

2) Width in the downswing. If you’re steep in transition, apart from figuring out your main cause of why, feeling some width in transition is a good way to help the shaft find a better plane on the way down.

Again, basic tips that should point you in a good direction. Want to figure out your main causes of inconsistency? Let’s get on the lesson tee👊🏼⛳️

Sometimes you’re facing a difficult tee shot and it’s hard to commit to what you’re seeing in front of you. This is a drill I do often that gives me an easier job: start my ball where I want to just a few steps in front of me. When I shrink the task in this way, there’s less trouble worry about, and it appears much easier to accomplish, so I can trust it that much more. This is a great way to practice start lines in the range so it transfers to the course when you’re facing a difficult or high pressure situation

Setup still matter! Kaden and I had our first lesson the other day, and most of what we talked about was setup related. He only started played about a year ago, and just recently broke 90 for the first time.

His miss was a push or a heel ball, and we focused on setup to give his arms more space to work around in the takeaway, then stay on plane to the top. This, plus a more athletic lower body (less knee bend) allows him to keep the club face rotating instead of holding it open.

Pretty good work for someone only playing a year. And the fun is just beginning. The best part? The changes were pretty simple.

Want to make some changes of your own? Let’s do it👊🏼

[one is new, two is swing at the end of lesson, three is original setup]

I saw a few other coaches and teachers post something similar recently, and thought I’d join in. I do think it’s helpful for golfers to know what we discuss during a lesson, maybe it’s not always what you might think.

Of course, each lesson is built with each specific golfer in mind, but these are common themes and main ideas that appear most often for me.

These are just broad ideas, but if you want to know about them, I’d love to share!⛳️

Spencer came in to address some short range misses with the putter. We talked setup, cleaned up a few things with his stance and posture, then used the Putting Thing from WhyGolf | Premium Golf Training Aids to dial in the start line much more reliably. I don’t use training aids very much, but the putting green is a place they can be very helpful⛳️

Competing at this level doesn’t just make me a better player — it makes me a better coach. Every round like this feeds directly back into what I teach.

A few pics from the last two days MN National Golf Club & Resort for my first Minnesota PGA Professional Championship. The golf was hard this week, but I’m confident I’m working on the right things. Jee Ah Christensen filled the caddy shoes as well as anyone! Onward📈
