I’ve been doing this number for nearly two decades and every few times something different goes distinctly wrong. This time, my skirt fastener managed to wedge itself under the edge of the corset, so that was a new one! Gotta love live theatre! If anybody has film of the costume catastrophe and everyone rushing onstage to rescue me, I’d love to see it. Clip from Clara Coquette at Coney Island USA this past Saturday night.

June 2 is International Wh**es Day, an anniversary of the day in 1975 when a group of s*x workers occupied a church in in Lyon, France to protest working conditions made more exploitative and dangerous by stigma and police.

This past Sunday at ,
I performed a fan dance (probably my first public performance of a fan dance in nearly a decade, except for Joe Coleman's opening last May when I performed ont he stairs, unless I’m forgetting something) in honor of my lost friends and comrades, and in celebration of the lives of all s*x workers everywhere. There were speakers, including the inimitable , who’s such a good writer she makes me mad, and other performers, and activist booths. Then our angel , who organizes this event every year, gave out awards and invited people to choose themselves to come up and get an award.

Sweet 16! The Burlesque Handbook came out in June 2010. It took me years to write, and then years to get it published. I did interviews, took most of the photos, and talked to students to find out what was most helpful to them. Now it’s been in print longer than many books get to be, and people tell me they’re still using it to create numbers!

I was a full time s*x worker throughout the process. There was never a time when s*x workers weren’t in burlesque, neo or otherwise. Proud to still be here!

Sending fierce love to all at this weekend! I’m so excited to see the posts in my feed about what everyone is doing there. I hope your experiences exceed your wildest dreams. The entire weekender is Dixie Evans’s legacy. And now YOU are making history!

Here I am having a blast at the Plaza in 2010 (?). Photo by Bob Debris, who I first met back at the Exotic World ranch in Helendale. Be sure to get a photo with him if you’re there!

Most special love to Viva La Fever Adele DeCampli- Cirkelis — you are in my heart, and I’m so proud to see the honor you’re receiving this weekend.

If I have time, I’ll post more images from my history with BHOF tomorrow!
