Today I pulled a card for artists yearning for social justice in this challenging era.
The Three of Swords is the classic card of betrayal and heartbreak. If you are feeling grief over the implications of the election’s outcome, doubting your power, and feeling unsure of the value of the value of your work under these conditions, have trust in your muse. You may feel a sense of unreality that causes you to wonder if you have ever known anything, but you have the resources to walk the walk you have always wanted to do. Like the forest witch, you will be a villain to some and a comrade to others. You may believe you do best as an island unto yourself, but you can also thrive as a worker among workers. Keep your eyes and mind open and choose your colleagues in resistance from among those who have the same opponents.
Take action and create authentically, for the audience you hope to find, the audience who wants what you have to offer, rather than trying to accommodate or avoid a cruel imaginary audience that would have you second-guessing yourself into immobility. Accept that your art matters and that you have enough experience and wisdom to work directly from your heart.
This card was drawn from the Carnival at the End of the World deck created by Truppe Fledermaus, who are visual and performance artists. This deck, while exploring the traditional meanings of the cards, uses the imagery and lore of the carnival to divine potential and to express concern for the environment.

One of my resolutions after facing the outcome of this appalling election cycle is to double down on my work of exploring the intersections of s*x work, fashion, and culture, and making their/our contributions known. S*x workers are among the most stigmatized workers; still, the s*x industry is a place where many, many marginalized people find community and opportunity. We inform culture and we make culture. And the incoming administration has made no secret that persecuting our industries is on their agenda. In upcoming articles I’ll be talking more about why I say that and what it means to those inside and outside of s*x work.
Thank you for 16 fabulous years of queerdo joy! You’re the best people 🧡💛💚💙💜❤️💖
Burlycon peeps! I’m here in the merch area with books, stickers, and 8x10s.
I’ll be the lead at the s*x worker caucus at 12.45 in Mercer B.
I hope to see you somewhere soon!
I posted these cat pictures one after the other in November 2016 to express my reactions live during the election results. Last night I didn’t watch, so this morning I woke up and went through them all in a matter of seconds. Arrrrrgggghhhhherrr
For the people most profoundly affected by the election result and everything it means, I’m so angry and sorrowful on your behalf.
I feel very determined. For the past few years I’ve been caught up in parental care and grieving, and dealing with a chronic health condition that affects my quality of daily life. Every day has been a struggle just to form coherent thoughts and keep moving.
Now I feel like, I don’t know, that’s enough of that. It might sound goofy but I feel like working out and eating healthier to see if I can get stronger to resist what’s about to come.
This isn’t over.
I voted deliciously.
FB memories just popped up this photo of me dancing at the Slipper Room in 2009! I have no idea whatever happened to these fans. Photo by Dale Harris.
My book Fierce got a nice shoutout today in by the always excellent !
Thank you to and for letting me know.

“Will we ever see the end of leopard print on women’s clothing?” a reader writes to Vanessa Friedman, chief fashion critic for The New York Times. “I recently met a friend after work at happy hour, and of about nine women in the area four wore leopard print: jacket, blouse, leggings, handbag. What is the appeal, and where did it even come from? And what is the best way to wear it?”
