On International Women’s Day, we want to take a moment and thank all the women in our FDNY family, not only our members but the women behind the scenes that allow them to do the job of protecting NYC.
Each year, the Family Assistance Unit & Fired Up for a Cure hosts Glitz & Glam - increasing awareness for the caretakers of our ill first responders and raising critical funds in support of those efforts.
Yesterday our event highlighted 4 amazing women:
Retired EMS Lt. Eileen S.
Joann S.,wife of Lt. Joseph Stach
Karen H.,founder of Athena Grace
Geraldine K. one of FDNY’s WTC Oncology Nurses who received the Freddy Simms Caretaker of the Year award.
This event would not be possible without the support of our FDNY families and the generous contributions of our sponsors:

The FFFF builds ramps and augments homes of disabled first responders and their families to ensure daily movement can be safe and independent. This is an organization that is always willing to help and allows our members to maintain their dignity during difficult times.
Founded by FDNY Firefighters from Canarsie’s Bravest Engine 257, Ladder 170 & Battalion 58- the passion and drive has grown exponentially each year; especially after the two Line of Duty passings of Canarsie’s Steven Pollard and Timothy Klein.
March 20, 2026, will be a night filled with live music, raffles, great food/drinks and inspiring stories. An award in the name of FFFF friend and board member Captain “Rusty” Roth will be presented as well. Captain Roth, succumbed to his World Trade Center related illness on December 8, 2025.
