Los Angeles Raiders running back Bo Jackson suffered a severe hip dislocation in a 1991 playoff game against the Cincinnati Bengals, which led to avascular necrosis and ended his football career.

Young Fran Tarkenton
Fran Tarkenton played for the Minnesota Vikings in two stints, from 1961-1966 and 1972-1978. At retirement, he held multiple NFL records and was later inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 1986 and the College Football Hall of Fame in 1987.

Lyle was a crazy sob
Lyle Alzado was notorious for his on-field rage, with his violent outbursts becoming a hallmark of his career. His aggressive behavior was later attributed in part to the long-term steroid use he confessed to before his death.
