Memorial Day Weekend, 18 athletes attended our 15th annual Martha’s Vineyard Triathlon Training Camp. The weather was better than expected, only slowing us down on Sunday afternoon for some much needed R&R after 3.5 days of training and a race that morning.
We kicked off the weekend with an open water swim on Thursday (followed by apps, drinks, hot tub and a delicious dinner of course)! Friday and Saturday consisted of long bike rides (and brick runs!), as well as afternoon open water swims. In our “down time” athletes enjoyed hanging out in the NormaTec recovery sleeves, relaxing at the house, playing games and re-fueling with lots of healthy (and some indulgent) treats.
We started Sunday with the Annual Oak Bluffs Memorial 5k Road Race, with several Empire athletes on the podium and hitting PR’s (the cool temps and rain actually made for quite perfect racing conditions!). We had a relaxing afternoon, exploring town, shopping, and hitting up the arcade!
The rain didn’t stop us on Monday - we rounded out the weekend with an open water swim (in the rain) before leaving the island.
There were LOTS of laughs shared with new and old friends. The bonds made at our camps are truly priceless, above and beyond the workouts. We cannot wait to welcome you to our home next year!

We had a wonderful time celebrating at Billy D’s annual Cheeseburger Day- celebrating the day Billy woke up from a motorcycle accident that claimed his leg and the first words out of his mouth after 2 weeks in a coma were “can I get a cheeseburger and coke!?”
Empire Tri Club is a proud sponsor of Cheeseburger Day, supporting . Later this year Billy will be traveling to Africa with a team of prosthetists to provide limbs and mentoring for children with limb differences.
As Billy stated at Mondays event, “when people call you an inspiration, you have to go out and do inspirational sh$&!” Well this inspiration is training for a 70.3 this summer! Go get it Billy! Hope you crush your goals!

Empire Tri Club wrapped up another incredible annual swim camp last weekend in Fort Lauderdale!
A group of 24 athletes and 3 coaches escaped to sunny South Florida for a weekend packed with swimming, skill-building, and team connection.
Over the course of three days, we fit in three 2-hour pool sessions, two open water swims, and three hours of classroom work—along with some well-earned beach time, volleyball, and a team dinner. A few motivated athletes even coordinated extra group runs between sessions!
As expected, the ocean kept things interesting. Our first open water swim brought choppy conditions, pushing athletes to manage nerves, adapt to waves and current, and build confidence in less-than-ideal conditions. It was a great reminder that race day rarely offers perfect conditions too—so training in a variety of environments is key to being prepared for anything.
In the pool, we focused on drills designed to refine technique, including catch, hand entry, breathing, body position, and rotation. In open water, we worked on sighting, swimming in groups, and navigating entries and exits.
This group showed up ready to learn, challenge themselves, and support one another every step of the way. The camaraderie extended beyond the water too—whether it was beach volleyball or shared meals, it was clear this team continues to grow stronger together.
We’re excited to watch what this crew accomplishes this season and grateful to have been part of the journey!
