I’m grateful to be a returning speaker at the Recovery & Wellness Summit this year! This year’s topic is all about a very common thought pattern- all or nothing thinking. My long-winded title is “How to Work Through and Manage All or Nothing Thinking: Generating New Mindsets through Conversations.”

All or nothing thinking leaves us feeling stuck in extremes and ultimately frustrated. So, I am excited to have a conversation with all of you about how we can start working through this thought pattern to turn our client’s experience with it around. I’ll touch on what creates this mentality, but the core of this talk dives into key communication and coaching strategies to work collaboratively with our clients to overcome it!

I’ve been thinking a lot about the parallels between my client’s desires to make health changes but not taking the starting steps and my desire to take my business remote but not wanting to be on social media.

A lot of time people are not able to bridge the gap between where they are and where they want to be because it feels overwhelming or their confidence is down because they feel like they’ve started and failed one too many times. But another reason is the lack of urgency or importance.

This is the case for me and social media. I had a million other things I could prioritize over posting. Like writing client programs or solving the Wordle.

I’m not frustrated with where I am with my remote business (being in a good spot with business doesn’t help the urgency to be on social) but I know that if I don’t start working towards it now, it’s only going to take longer to be where I truly want it to be. So, having that little talk with myself and (.vs) helped me to be here today.

I guess I’m saying a couple things. Change is change. Whether it’s making a health change or a business change. When you want something to change and are feeling frustrated that you can’t get started with it, asking yourself how important is this change to you and what is the urgency. Those questions might not make you automatically ready to start working towards your change, but if you are truly honest with yourself they might alleviate some of your frustrations. And ironically, being a little less frustrated or resistant might make you more ready to start.

My presentation streams at 2PM today!

Link in bio to register for this free event! Due to my pathetic posting abilities I didn’t let you know last week, but luckily it’s on again today along with many other great presentations this weekend!

I will be talking on all things behavior change and will translate the bodies of knowledge that are applied in coaching and behavior psychology into hands-on practical skills!

The live streaming is free. You have the ability to buy lifetime access to all the presentations at an early bird price until tomorrow (link for that also in bio) and then after that a regular price.

If you watch my presentation, let me know! 👋

So, Sahmura, where’ve you been? No where, I haven’t been anywhere or taken a vacation in 12 months since I was in Rio, pictured here. Just been avoiding Instagram. So, here’s some pink for this special day. Happy Valentine’s Day! 💗

Do You Make New Year’s Resolutions?
As we are about to start a new calendar year it’s that time that, traditionally, people resolve to change an undesired trait or behavior or to accomplish a certain goal. But with that resolution comes the expectation that it should happen automatically and when life gets bumpy, as it undoubtedly will, thoughts of failure immediately arise.

Wanting to make changes and be a better version of ourselves is a positive thing. But with that decision to make a change you need to remember that we rarely, if ever, progress through the stages of change in a straightforward way. Lapses and recycling through stages are common, perhaps even inevitable. You should regard them as an integral part of the process that provide opportunities that allow you to learn, adjust and adapt.

A question to ask yourself when you hit your first bump: “What were my partial successes and what didn’t work that I need to adjust?”
