This week’s senior spotlight is Gabby!

One of Gabby’s favorite AYDT memories comes from last year’s tap dance, when the whole group ran on stage at the end to hug the seniors in their class. She remembers it as such a special moment of connection (and a few tears) before quickly rushing off for the next quick change. She also loves the everyday joy of class, especially when everyone gets to create dances together and run them over and over to different songs.

From big stage moments to the little in-class traditions, Gabby’s time at AYDT has been filled with laughter, connection, and the kind of joy that sticks with you long after the music stops.

Gabby plans to major in psychology at Boston University and stay involved with dancing and singing through student musical productions.

This week’s senior spotlight is Jillian!

One of Jillian’s favorite things about AYDT is how dance brings so many people together. She loves watching the younger dancers and says she is constantly inspired by every single one of them. Her favorite memories are rehearsal and show weeks overall. While it can be chaotic and exhausting, she loves seeing everything come together! From dancers helping each other get ready to feeling the warm energy that fills the auditorium. Moments she’s definitely going to miss the most.

As she heads to the University at Buffalo to major in dance, Jillian leaves AYDT with a deep appreciation for the community, the behind-the-scenes moments, and the shared joy of performance.

Each week leading up to their final recital, we’ll be spotlighting our AYDT seniors and the memories that have shaped their journey with us.

This week’s senior spotlight is Addison!

Addison has spent 13 years at AYDT, and some of her most meaningful memories include Saturday rehearsals with the Firebirds, time with the competition team, the excitement of the Lucy Walsh Benefit, and performing in The Nutcracker. This year, she stepped into the role of Mouse Queen! An experience she says she’ll never forget.

More than anything, Addison shares how special it’s been to grow up in a space that feels like home.

Addison used to admire the older dancers, and hopes she’s been able to be that same inspiration for the younger dancers today.

As she heads to the University of South Carolina to study Elementary Education (with hopes of minoring in dance), Addison leaves AYDT with a full heart and a lot of unforgettable memories!

Broadway came to AYDT! 🦁✨

We had the honor of welcoming Daphne Marcelle Lee, currently performing in Disney’s The Lion King on Broadway, for a special Guest Artist Master Class. Dancers got to dive into Horton Technique while exploring the storytelling movement style that brings The Lion King to life, blending grounded modern technique with Broadway magic.

This workshop was curated in celebration of Black History Month and Women’s History Month, honoring the powerful legacy of Black women in dance, storytelling, and musical theater. 🤎✨
