Ziad Elsissy - زياد السيسى

Just a week before the World Championships, I suffered a wrist injury during our training camp in China.

The medical team and I did everything possible to get me back, and I held on to the hope of competing until the night before my event. The only way I could step on the strip was to fence left-handed, so I did.

It wasn’t the result I had worked for, but I’m at peace knowing I gave myself every possible chance, even if it meant competing with my left hand, because I know I tried.

Although I couldn’t stand on the podium as an athlete this time, I was incredibly proud to stand in the box alongside my teammate Mohamed Amer , who fenced amazingly to win bronze and keep our team’s streak alive with a medal at a 3rd consecutive World Championship. It reminded me that success isn’t always personal, sometimes seeing your teammate succeed can be just as meaningful.

Unfortunately, my wrist still hasn’t healed, which means I also won’t be competing at the Mediterranean Games. Thank you to everyone who reached out, checked on me, and supported me through this difficult time.

This is just another chapter in the journey. I’ll do everything I can to recover, come back stronger, and continue chasing the goals we started together. ❤️

As proud as I am of these results, I’m even more proud of every fencer on our team. Not everyone went home with a medal, but every single one stepped onto the strip ready to fight, compete, and give everything they had. That’s what makes this team so special. 🤍

A huge thank you to our incredible coaches, staff, and parents. Your hard work, belief, and unwavering support have helped build something truly special.

To accomplish this in less than a year since opening our doors is hard to put into words. We’ve come a long way, but this is only the beginning. We’ll keep learning, keep working, and keep pushing ourselves to be better every single day. 💪
