He carried 100+ lbs of luggage up a flight of stairs at a train station - strangers took notice.
The family hiked 70 miles on the Camino de Santiago. - with a baby!
Neither of them trained specifically for that trip.
They just trained. Consistently. Even as new parents.
That’s what strength training done right actually looks like.
Not just a number on a scale or a size on a tag - but a body that shows up when life asks something of it.
Nobody walks in here saying “I want to be ready for anything.”
But that’s exactly what they become.
This is what we help build at The FIT Lab… sustainably.
Week after week. Month after month. Year after year.

Community is the new currency in fitness.
Not the fake “we’re a family” kind plastered on gym websites. The real kind where you know people’s names, coaches know your goals, and showing up actually feels like something you want to do.
That’s what small group personal training is built for. 7 people max. Real coaching. No waiting on machines or weights.
Zero chaos.
Here’s what our members say about it 👇
“The small group offers the energy of a community environment, without the chaos of oversized classes.”
“I also appreciate that there are usually other women in my sessions… it’s definitely not a gym bro environment.”
“The small group training has a fun collegial vibe, and the exercises are tailored to your goals and keep in mind any injuries or preferences.”
“Best of all, there’s a strong sense of community - it has that welcoming feel from all coaches and clients. It’s a place I genuinely look forward to showing up to and working hard each time I step in the door.”
Big box gyms sell access. Bootcamps sell sweat. We sell something harder to find and impossible to fake - a room full of people who know you, coach you, and actually notice when you’re not there.
That’s the difference.
Ready to train somewhere that feels like your ‘second place’?

If the only tool you have is a hammer, everything starts to look like a nail.
This theory is called Maslow’s Hammer - and it shows up in fitness all the time.
For the last 20 years, the fitness industry has mostly handed people one tool:
High intensity workouts.
Want to lose weight? Go harder.
Want better results? Sweat more.
Want to change your body? Push yourself to exhaustion.
Even before you had social media constantly banging this drum - we had The Biggest Loser sending one message loud and clear: more intensity is the only way to go.
So when someone decides they want to get stronger, leaner, and healthier… they often reach for the only tool they’ve ever been shown - high intensity classes.
And to be fair, classes can be a lot of fun. Great energy, loud music, and sometimes a really strong community (see Crossfit.)
But over time, many people notice the same pattern:
They either see some progress but feel constantly beat up, or the workouts are so taxing that they can’t stay consistent long enough to see meaningful change. And that start-stop-start-stop cycle is a real mind-F.
The issue usually isn’t effort.
Super high intensity can’t be the only tool in the toolbox.
The best long-term results usually come from a smarter mix of strength training, incremental progression, and intensity appropriate for the member’s “state of readiness”… not maximum intensity every day.
Because the people who see the most progress aren’t the ones who train the hardest on any single day.
They’re the ones who find a system that feels good and that they can stick with for years.

We post a lot of pictures of members deadlifting ( see above 😝 )
Sometimes it’s someone lifting their bodyweight for the first time. Other times it’s someone pulling twice their bodyweight for a big set of reps.
We love sharing those moments because the deadlift is one of the most powerful movements a person can learn. There’s no other exercise that requires the same level of coordination between muscles, joints, and the nervous system. When someone deadlifts well, it’s a beautiful display of strength.
But while we take a lot of pride in helping our members get stronger - in a responsible and sustainable way - it’s actually what you can’t see in those photos that we’re most proud of.
Many of the members you see on our page didn’t walk into The FIT Lab as “lifters.”
Some started with real concerns about back or knee pain.
Some had no idea how they were going to fit workouts into an already full schedule.
Some had never strength trained before, or were coming off a long layoff.
Plenty had tried other gyms or classes and felt their progress stall after a few months.
Weren’t trying to portray our gym as a place where everyone can lift hundreds of pounds.
And we’re certainly not trying to “go viral.”
Those deadlift photos are important because they represent weeks and months of learning how to move well, building strength gradually, and folks like you discovering their bodies are far more capable than they once believed.
The lift is impressive.
But the real story is everything that you don’t see.

We’ve been serving busy working professionals who want to get strong and feel great for 13 years.
We understand that consistency requires flexibility. Careers, families, travel, long days - your schedule isn’t static, so your fitness program can’t be either.
We also know your energy and motivation are finite. After a full day of work, the last thing you should have to do is sift through endless information online trying to figure out the “perfect” program.
And progress doesn’t happen by accident. We track your weights, your volume, and your performance so you don’t stall out after 2–3 months like most people do when they’re going to classes and saying, “ I think this is the weight I’ve been using.”
Behind the scenes, our team is in constant communication - so every coach knows about your goals, your flare-ups, and where your head’s at that week.
We handle the programming.
We handle the progression.
We handle the thinking.
You just show up, move your body, and have some fun while getting stronger.

A lot of people come to The FIT Lab looking for 'something more' from their training.
They had fun doing HIIT-style classes. The music was loud, the sweat was real, and they left exhausted. But after a few months, progress stalled. Strength stopped improving. Body composition stopped changing. And for many, nagging aches and injuries started to creep in.
Here’s the hard truth: fatigue doesn’t equal results.
Feeling crushed after every workout might feel productive, but being tired isn’t the same thing as getting stronger, building muscle, or moving better.
Most of our members want clear outcomes - get stronger, change body composition, and feel better in daily life. That’s why our training is built around progressive strength work, intentional programming, and detailed coaching.
Not constant redlining. Not chasing sweat for sweat’s sake.
Good coaching + smart training means more energy, fewer aches, and workouts you can actually recover from. And that matters, because consistency is the single most important factor in long-term progress.
Many high-intensity programs unintentionally trap people in a cycle of going hard, burning out, stopping… then starting over again. Our goal is to help you train in a way you can sustain, week after week, month after month.
Because when training feels purposeful and your body feels better, showing up gets easier.
And that’s where real results live.

Back in December, The Fit Lab won "Best Personal Trainers" in the Best of 2025 poll. First, I want to thank the ladies at Hoboken Girl for continually highlighting local small businesses - we are incredibly grateful : ) I'd also like to shout out my team - I'm stoked that got acknowledged for their hard work. I'm confident that there isn't a group of fitness professionals anywhere who dedicate more time off the training floor to educating themselves and putting in the work to ensure that all of our members are well looked after and continue to make progress over time. This our 13th year surving the great communities of Hoboken & Jersey City, but due to our deep desire to get better everyday, it feels like we're just getting started. Finally, thank you to all of our members past and present for your trust and support - we don't take it for granted, and we appreciate the heck out of ya!
