Dr. Mark DeGarmo will serve as a Keynote Speaker at the 4th International Interdisciplinary Symposium, Border/less 4.0: Beyond Crisis: New Acts of Creation, hosted by Beykoz University’s Faculty of Art and Design in Istanbul, Turkey.
The hybrid symposium will take place June 24-26, 2026, bringing together international scholars and practitioners across the social sciences, arts, and humanities, engaged in interdisciplinary and practice-based areas of research and creative inquiry.
This year’s theme, Beyond Crisis: New Acts of Creation, examines how ongoing global instability, including environmental change, socio-political upheaval, and technological transformation, can be understood not only as disruption but as a catalyst for new forms of creativity, innovation, and interdisciplinary practice. The symposium highlights how emerging conditions are reshaping approaches to creation across the arts, sciences, technology, and social systems, generating new frameworks for resilience and imagination in the 21st century. Symposium languages are Turkish and English.

Mark DeGarmo Dance’s Dance for Dance for Social Change 2026 honors internationally recognized performer, teacher, choreographer, and author, Dr. Daniel Lewis, with our “Educational Visionary” Lifetime Achievement Award 2026.
Daniel Lewis is an internationally recognized performer, teacher, choreographer, and author, and the founding Dean of Dance at the New World School of the Arts in Miami, where he joined in 1987. He was a graduate of The Juilliard School in 1967. Mr. Lewis danced for 12 years with the José Limón Dance Company, originating leading roles, staging works of companies worldwide, and later serving as the company’s artistic director. He founded the repertory company Daniel Lewis Dance and is the author of The Illustrated Dance Technique of José Limón, translated into multiple languages. Daniel Lewis has received numerous honors for his contributions to dance, including the National Society of Arts and Letters Gold Medal for Lifelong Achievement in Dance (1990) and the Florida Arts Recognition Award (2001). He has received five lifetime achievement awards and holds an honorary doctorate from the University of Florida. His biography Daniel Lewis, A Life in Choreography and the Art of Dance, was released in May of 2020.
