Gracie Jiu-Jitsu NY will be making a move away from Social Media as a place for us to congregate.

Register for our FREE News Letter and bring a friend if you like: https://gracieny2.fitproconnect.com/ReferAFriend/?LinkId=82599528

We think by now everyone knows how great these platforms can be but we recognize that they can be hard to break free from - let's face it, they are designed to keep you there longer than you may have planned. And they can be toxic.

With that we are sending a monthly News Letter to keep you up to date at the Academy. These newsletters will also include health and fitness tips along with weekly recipes that meet various dietary and life goal guidelines.

Check it out and register if you'd like to join us in a quiet space - there is registration space at the top of the email.

The internet is wonderful and powerful... sometimes too powerful.

We all know how great it is but we all get sucked in. And that sucks - no pun intended lol.

As a business not much sounds better that FREE advertising and FREE online communities but it's not really free, is it. If you don't know what the Product is, then it's YOU.

Gracie Jiu-Jitsu NY will continue to use social platforms in the most minimal of ways, but our main focus will be to use it as a funnel for our upcoming News Letter.

News Letter?! That's so 2002. Yeah, we're going backwards. Old School. Or, are we progressing?

We have lots to share with you and we hate that we have to bring you to a "room" where all the bright lights and flashy signs keep you emotionally trapped longer than you planned.

Sometimes I feel like the Socials are a Casino that gives you $25 in free chips because they know you won't leave until you've lost tons of your own money. Money you might not have spent otherwise.

So to support the life choices you might want to make, we are paying to send you the information that you want and stuff we'd love to share, and not making you pay.

We'll post more here as we remove ourselves but since we're both here now anyway, please comment below. We'd LOVE to hear your thoughts on this move.

I tried to find a post to tag you in Mikael Forsgren, to answer your question about how "all" the Gracies train. Most of my experience is with Relson, Rickson, and Royce... Also a good amount with Caique, Renzo, and Rorion Gracie.

They all follow pretty much the same fight methodology but expressed at different levels. I find that Relson and Rickson are at the peak of each expression with the difference described below:

I have been fortunate to start training with Relson Gracie in 1994 and receive all of my belts from him. His approach is unique even in the Gracie Family and in my option, unmatched. He ALWAYS had an answer to a situation and he had it immediately. I was always amazed how I could ask him about a situation and he would look puzzled… “Show me.” As I would demonstrate my attack on him, he would have an immediate response. And if was always flawless. Every now and then he would ask me to do it again… and here comes a modification that was jaw dropping.

Cause and Effect. That’s Relson.

I continue to be fortunate and after many hours of training with and learning from Rickson, I see there is a similarity in their Precision and immediate response. The one thing I find glaringly different though is their approach to response. When you are in a position with Relson, in his Guard for example, you feel that you can do something - so you do. And then you tap. So maybe he lets you get on top Cross Mount. You feel like you can attack, so you do - and you tap. Every thing you do is bad. He ALWAYS has an answer and it’s quick, sharp, and painful.

Now Rickson… get in his Guard and you don’t feel like you can do anything. If you have any Jiu-Jitsu sense, you don’t feel good about moving. You know it’s not going to be good. It’s like walking on very slick ice - you fear every step. Put Rickson in your Guard and you feel the same. Like any movement by you, will be your demise. His understanding of what he calls “The Middle” is unlike anything I’ve ever felt - but you do feel it. He takes your comfort in the position. He just ever so slightly takes your base. He takes your confidence. And when you move it just gets worse. I used to watch his very early fights and wonder why some fighters were so apprehensive - so hesitant. “Attack already!” I would think.

But now I know… they felt what I have felt and am beginning to learn from him.

I am forever indebted to these two men. My friends. For what they have opened my eyes to and continue to share with me.

I hope I can share it with many of you.
