In our Children’s Ballet Program, the love for dance begins in the smallest moments.
This International Dance Day, we celebrate the early steps that shape a dancer’s journey, where curiosity, joy, and imagination come together in the studio. Each class builds confidence and connection, giving dancers a space to explore movement and discover how to express themselves.
It is here that a lasting relationship with dance starts to grow, one class at a time.

On International Dance Day, we celebrate the many ways our dancers continue to grow and expand as artists.
In faculty member Jason Luks’s Theater Dance class, our Jazz & Contemporary Trainee concentration upperclassmen into a different side of performance, learning how to work with the camera. With Angelo Soriano behind the lens, dancers explored how movement translates on screen, bringing awareness to detail, intention, and presence in a new way.
With his extensive professional background both in performance and behind the camera, Jason offers a unique perspective that expands how our dancers approach their work. We’re excited to see how this process comes to life on video soon!

Last summer in Italy, dancers trained across disciplines in a setting where history and movement meet. Inside our Joffrey Italy Summer Intensive, the work connects classical foundations with contemporary and street styles, creating a dynamic, multidisciplinary experience under the direction of Artistic Director Diego Salterini .
Dancers are immersed in a focused schedule of Classical Ballet, Contemporary, and Street Jazz, moving between styles that reflect both the legacy and evolution of dance across Europe. Each class builds versatility, musicality, and a broader understanding of movement across genres.
Set in Catanzaro, the experience extends beyond the studio, offering a unique cultural environment where dancers engage with training in both Italian and English. It is a week shaped by exploration, connection, and a deeper relationship to the art form.

A full day of training and discovery unfolded earlier this month at the 2026 ICONS Dance Festival Master Classes, bringing dancers into the room with leading artists across the industry.
BH2, Ballet Hispánico’s second company , began with a ballet barre led by Director Blanca Huertas , followed by learning company repertoire from “Sombrerísimo” by Annabelle Lopez Ochoa , guided by Rodney Hamilton .
Limón2 came next, with Artistic Director Dante Puleio leading a class rooted in Limón technique, exploring weight, breath, and intention.
The Joffrey Concert Group closed the experience with Artistic Director Bradley Shelver , who guided dancers through movement phrases and repertoire from his works “And The Things That Remain” and “3114,” offering insight into his process and approach.
Across every class, dancers engaged with different movement languages, building versatility, deepening technique, and connecting through a shared commitment to the work. We are grateful to all of the artists, faculty, and dancers who made this experience possible.

In faculty member Sekou McMiller’s Latin Jazz class, our Jazz & Contemporary Trainee concentration students get to experience his expertise. His approach pushes dancers to stay locked into the music, refining precision through repetition while building stamina and confidence in the style.
The class carries a vibrant, joyful energy, grounded in his reminder to “live your life” fully through the movement. It becomes a space where dancers let go, commit, and bring their full selves into the work while staying deeply connected to the rhythm.
