The Open doesn’t test everything.

You can hide in training.
You can bias what you enjoy.

The Open doesn’t care.

You can’t predict The Open workouts.
If your system doesn’t train the historical demands of CrossFit… your athletes will get exposed.
The Open is random by design.
The demands are not.
Themes will repeat, demands will stay constant. The exercise selection and ex*****on will change up.
Ask, “Does my programming consistently prepare athletes for what CrossFit has historically demanded?”
Because when the announcement hits, there’s no time to install new capacity.
You only get to express what you built.
And if you don’t have a system?
You’ll feel it right away:
For many who build correctly the open workout turns into another training day. Another “i’ve been here before” moment.
For others, panic and doubt settle in....

Most athletes think “mindset” is chest-thumping and adrenaline. That works… until the first mistake, the first no-rep, or the first time your lungs feel like they’re on fire.
Real competition mindset is three things:
Control the controllables
You can’t control the workout, the judge, the crowd, or who’s in your heat. You can control your pace, your transitions, your breathing, your standards, and your self-talk.
Respond, don’t react
Something will go wrong. A slip. A missed rep. A bad split. The best competitors don’t spiral, they reset fast. One deep breath, one clean rep, back to the plan.
Do the next right thing
Competing is stacking good decisions while your brain is screaming for shortcuts. One rep at a time. One transition at a time. One intentional choice at a time.
Mindset isn’t magic.
It’s practiced.
The athlete who wins is usually the one who can stay the most “normal” when everything hurts.
