وتساءل عدد من المعلقين حول أسباب هذا الارتفاع غير المقبول، وحول دواعي زراعة الطماطم إذا كان سيتم تسويقها في الأسواق الداخلية بمثل هذه الأسعار الحارقة التي كبدت الفئات المعوزة ومحدودة الدخل خسائر كبيرة في ’’قفة الأسبوع‘‘ التي اضطر بعضهم مع هذه التطورات غير المتوقعة إلى أن يقلص من مقتنيات أخرى أو يوفر مصاريف ثمن الطماطم على حساب مواد اخرى بسبب تضاعف سعرها بأربع مرات تقريبا.

وذهب بعض النشطاء المغاربة أبعد من ذلك إلى تداول حديث منسوب إلى الخليفة، عمر بن الخطاب، حين أفتى بعض سائليه بمقاطعة المنتوجات المرتفع ثمنها، بالقول ’’أرخصوه أنتم‘‘، قبل أن يستدرك قوله بـ’’اتركوه لهم‘‘، وذلك بعد شكوى بعض سائليه عن غلاء ثمن اللحم عند الجزارين.
