The Groundcontrol™️ Immersion: 24 hours of study & practice with Lindsay Ashmun at Kula in SoHo
Module 1: November 22—23
Module 2: December 6—7
Module 3: December 13—14
Each Module takes place on Sat/Sun from 1—5pm.
This immersion is designed to be attended all-in, however, you may sign up for each module individually if you prefer.
Every Groundcontrol Module will include a full Groundcontrol practice and workshop with material that arises from questions and discoveries in practice. We will work with the Groundcontrol repertoire of props in every weekend: blocks, sandbags, Therabands, ab balls, and gliders. All props will be provided.
Module 1: Getting Grounded & The Ground Work (November 22—23)
Expect a deep dive into what is asked of our nervous system and physiology when we orient ourselves to our current environments and states in order to prepare for movement. How do we connect? What do we perceive? How do we breathe? Where do we start? These inquiries are the foundation of Groundcontrol. We will explore all the low level exercises and triplanar movement sequences from supine, prone, and side lying positions on the mat.
Module 2: Midlevel Zone & The Plank Work (December 6—7)
In this module we build on the foundation of core support and triplanar movement enriched by The Groundwork in Module 1. We will explore the plank in all shapes and sizes, the love/hate relationship with Push Ups, and ways to adjust according to one’s unique level of strength and physical proportions in these sequences. Expect plenty of upper body loading and conditioning in this weekend.
Module 3: Putting it Together & The Standing Work (December 13—14)
Upright movement is explored from the ground up in this module. We will review, relate, and integrate the material from Modules 1 and 2 with triplanar exercises challenging balance, lower body strength, and various speeds in motion. Expect a review of the mechanics of the hips, legs and feet and how to work with our weight and proprioception to fortify connection to the ground, self, and others.

Strength is created in the relentless relationship between you and the world.
it is a measurement of WHAT IT TAKES WITHIN YOU to do the thing. Whatever it is.
I have the honor of training athletes and women. In my work I think a lot about the role of fear and the question “What didn’t get to happen” . Often I am in an rehabilitation process with an athlete cleared post op, and helping them get ready for the next season, or teaching women how fierce they are despite society wanting them to be small. I see a lot of similarities session to session. Injury is injury. Trauma underlies more trauma. The body mind wants to heal and be strong because there is no other viable option.
Healing is not the erasure of fear but the expansion of our capacity to move with it. To breathe inside it. To use it as a resource of energy. As our nervous system would have it, this is by design.
Healing is watching the mind tell us the same story, but to not be the story. Instead, we let the body lead.
This is strength training.
It is the spine remembering its verticality, the legs remembering to move quickly, to hold steady, to root.
It is the arms remembering to press, the hands remembering to grip, and let go. The power and support of our diaphragm. Our voice. Our body language.
It is remembering you are, after all, alive, and here, in this body. You made it.
You made it. Through another day. You made it against all odds. You made it back on the court, on the field, with your team. You made it home. In your body. You lifted that weight because it is for no one else but you.
It sucked.
But you did it.
Welcome Home.

My dear friends Kenny and Char lost their home and everything they owned on Tuesday. They have three small beautiful children, own and run CROSSFIT LA/ OAK PARK, and give tirelessly to their community. Their sweet home had been my LA home countless times and they always took me in like family.
I am devastated for their loss, and the overwhelming loss of so many in LA. I’m helping raise money for their basic needs at this time through a Go Fund Me
campaign that has been set up for them. The link is in my bio.
